I found a barrel last night to go on my Rem 700 SA and ordered. 1/8" twist, 4 contour...Should finish about .680 ish at 24". My goal is a dedicated Wolf/Coyote/Varmint Rifle that has a little more meat on the barrel, but will still finish at a decent weight to pack around the Idaho Backcountry. (Thinking around 8 pound finished rifle, before scope)
I don't have an interest in shooting ultra heavy 88-90 grain bullets, I mainly want to shoot 77 grain Scenars and then have the ability to shoot volume 40-55 grain bullets for rock chucks and ground squirrels.
With those parameters listed, would you still chamber for 22 creed or go to 22-250? I am leaning towards the 22-250 for easy volume ammo. I will reload the 77 grain scenars.

Man, in todays world I would get the one you can find a pile of brass for. I have the same stuff but have been looking at the 22-250 Improved more only because I can get/have brass for the 22-250 whereas getting CM brass seems to be a tough call. If brass is all the same, I'd say CM all day long though.
I figured with the Ackley I could use light bullets to fireform cases to goof around with and be left with fully formed cases to use with heavies.

Come over here for a day or two and I'll let you shoot both. I feel pretty confident that you will go with the 22 CM after a few shots. Wolves don't make it a habit of offering up close and personal shots and the 22 CM offers enough more horsepower to get the heavy bullets moving. I shoot the 69 gr. Scenars in mine and it's pretty impressive out to 7 or 8 hundred yards.

Sure the same can be done with more steps with the 6.5 case. If you are FF anyhow lots of guys are FF’ing 22-250 brass for their 22CMs.

Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

I shoot a bunch of the 6 CM as well, so in that case I wouldn't wanna mix. Also great point about FF'ing 250 brass up. I'd go CM then with that info! Thanks Josh. Never thought of FF'ing up 250 if I had to. With Lapua being out there it isn't a big deal at all.

The 22 BR is a nicely balanced round too, particularly if this rifle will see a larger round count, it will not be such a barrel burner

I grew up with, and have a .22-250 that I love. However, if I were starting from scratch? .22 CM all the way. The difference being the more modern Throat/Leade area that will have it shooting circles around the older round, and at much higher velocity.

brass for a 22-250 is the easiest to find great cartridge , but the better accuracy cartridge is a 22 BR , i see very little difference in a 22-250 VS a 22 Creedmoor so chamber a 22-250. > BUT if you can put a 26 inch barrel on it and its a hunting rifle maybe a 220 Swift ?

If you do go the creed route - stay away from small primers vs. large rifle primers especially if you are hunting in the cold weather.
The 250 will feed better for a field gun, and if you find a good smith he can chamber a 22-250 as tightly as a creed, fast twist on either yields pretty amazing terminal performance results.

I've got almost a 5 gal bucket of fired 6.5 CM brass. That's the route I'm taking...
It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

Dude, just go 22Creed and never look back. It's one of the most impressive cartridges out there... you won't be disappointed.

22cm is easy button but for 2nd cool I would vote for the 22-250ai IF YOURE PREPARED TO MAKE BRASS
EDIT; Sorry I thought you asked specifically about the 250ai
you're claim of "volume ammo" easy availability for the 22250...I don't know if that is applicable...now I haven't bought 22250 stuff in a while I have a ranch owner friend who says that he got the 250 specifically for ammo availability, price, etc....he caim by begging me to load for him because he hasn't been able to find ammo for the last couple years or more and said before there wasn't too much out there...now I don't know how accurate that claim is but id say that you should make sure you can get the stuff you think... I think that the 22cm may be standardized at some point (I like to think) I am pretty sure there are some companies loading for it...I think as a dedicated 80+ gr stuff its a hammer! If you want to stay 77 and under id say go 22250
me....im looking at a nosler 21 in 22 nosler! x0

I always wanted one of those 8 twist tikka 22-250s when they were available. I like the idea of a 22 creed, but there's nothing wrong with a vanilla 22-250...especially since Lapua makes brass.

You won’t be sorry, the 22 creed is an awesome round. I had mine done on a 1-7 barrel and shot 95gr SMK at 3085fps.

Agreed. Wouldn't a 6CM give a bit better bore life ? Many bullet options from 55-105+ in the 6s.......... Bore life aside, a 22 bore is great for varmints, and I know they are capable on deer......... I've formed brass in the past, but prefer standardized rounds, for my K.I.S.S. preference.

First off the 8 twist Tikka 22-250 is still available.........3 of them at Scheels by my house !!!!!!! Yes 6CM would give better bore life.......6.5CM even better but that's not the point here
