I bought a new Heritage black Rough Rider revolver in .22 a few months ago, only been to the range once. While parts of the gun are blued, the receiver is made of an alloy and seems to be painted or lacquered? Saw some online videos where these get handled a lot and the finish gets down to the grayish medal. I know that the British used stove paint on their war time Enfield rifles to save time over bluing, what is the best finish to use to keep this revolver looking good as it wears?

Thanks.

You could try Birchwood-Casey Aluminum Black touch up pen.

The alloy is called Zomak 3, doubt that it is aluminum. Also, I tried Birchwood Casey aluminum touch up on an aluminum scope years ago, what a waste of money, did nothing. Not surprised as I had an interview with 3 of the company presidents in the early 90's and they did not seem very intelligent, hated skilled college graduates like me. No wonder the Americans are failing globally. I avoided them since 1993.

If it is Zamak, that's a zinc alloy

Ironically Zamak was developed in the 1920's to form into shapes that steel was difficult to do, said to be pretty rugged. The videos I have seen on the older Heritage Arms revolvers have not mentioned any failures so far. Wish it was stainless steel, but for only $143.00 to purchase new in the box, can't beat that.

Grill paint seems to be fairly durable.

Works on steel AND alloys.

"Hobby paint" for a hobby revolver? May as well deploy your Sharpie into action. Get to gunsmithing, pardner.
