Hunted with a friend today and his dad invited me over for lunch afterwards. They shot a bunch of spoons yesterday and that’s what we had for lunch. Spoony sandwiches, rice fed of course. Pretty damn good!!!

Spoonies are tasty, one day this season a guy left his spoony at the check station. On that same day at the check station I overheard a guy holding a gadwall say he doesn’t shoot spoonies. Pretty ridiculous.

We rarely get them in the flooded timber. We do see lots on the rice fields, though. I have heard folks say that they don’t make the best table fare. Looks like I heard wrong!

If I breasted out a mallard, a spoony, a gadwall, and a teal, prepared them the same way, and took care of the size difference, not 1 in 100 could tell me which is which in my opinion, particularly if they have all been on the rice.
To me, specs are fantastic table fare, and lots of folks won’t eat any goose. Go figure.

I 100% agree. You are what you eat. If it was eating sheeot, snails,or fish when it was killed it’ll probably taste like that, even more so if they are cooked with the skin on. It it wasn’t it won’t.
