It's been sitting in my safe and is screaming for some activity. I need to take it out but need some ideas on optics for a walk around varminter. What do you say guys? It' a 22-250.

Something in the "point and shoot" realm...like a fixed 6X.

That little rifle is begging for a 6x36 Leupold

I have an older Swarovski 3-9x36 that might get a look.

What are your expected ranges. My Mannlicher stocked 270 wore a 1.5-4.5 straight tubed variable, it looked very nice on it and worked very well in northern MN and WI.

I've seen many Fullstocked rifles in Europe wearing scopes with up to 56mm objectives for late night hunting they do look large on them.

I wouldn't go with a fixed power scope on a predator hunting rifle ust for the fact that the FOV is so small on a fixed 6 compared to a 1.5-6(my favorite) or 2-7.

I wouldn't overlook a Leupold VX-3 1.5-5x20mm, my nephew uses one on his 243 for coyotes.

Leupold Compact 2-7, one of the smallest ocular housings on a scope so I can mount it low to clear the bolt handle.

A walk around varminter will most likely ride in my Polaris as I drive the ranch. Shots could be close or as far as I feel comfortable shooting. I have a few scopes that would work well. among them, are:

Bushnell 3200 1.5-6x36
Swarovski Habicht 3-9x36
SWFA 2.5-10x32
Leupold FX III 6x42

There are a few more possibilities but these are likely the top contenders.

I would try the bushnell. 1.5 power while driving and would get you on target rather quick.

I'll send you my address in Montana, try several options and then send my suggestions. 8X Leupold AO would be the first one in my safe to try.

Walking rifle implying fast shot screams for low power I have missed more game from too much magnifying than not enough. If it were mine I would go 1.5x5

Okay, Ingwe had a powerful sway on me and I mounted my Leupold FX-3 6X. What do you think? I like it, but have not taken it to the range.

IMO the 42mm objective overwhelms the look of the rifle, the 6x36 would be a better fit for looks. Having owned both the 42mm and 36mm if the 36 gives up anything to the 42 my eyes cannot see it.

Good comment. Personally, I prefer a bit larger OB but I will look at a 1.5-6x36 and a 3-9x36 to see how well they balance.

Changed out the scope today, putting on a Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5-6x36. I think it balances much better. Thoughts?

I like the smaller bodied scopes on the full stocked rifles.
This is a 2X7 Leupold on my old Forester in .358 Win.
It just looks right....

If it was mine Cliff, I've got a Vortex 2 x 7 with a 35 mm objective...new in the box that I'd be mounting on it..

beautiful rifle.... I also have an old Leupold 2 x 7 Shotgun scope... that I'd consider using...

then I'll really be low class and mention the ONE old Tasco World Class in 2 x 7 I have... its sure got some clear glass on it...at least for my eye sight.

That's an excellent setup and a really nice scope.
