Clark Gillies passed away yesterday, hall of famer, former Captain of the Islanders, the complete beast. I didn't know he was from Moose Jaw Sask, not surprised though. RIP.
Great player. Luckly I had the opportunity to see him play against Edmonton as the transition occured. Just a force on the ice. RIP and all the best to the family.
673; Good morning to you all up north, I trust the coffee is on and the coals are glowing at your house.
We've got hoarfrost everywhere this morning and it's only -6°C so not too, too bad.
Although as you know I am not a hockey fan, I did have family that watched and so am familiar with Clark Gillies' career.
I'm not sure I could have told you he was from Moose Jaw either, but that doesn't surprise me as hockey is surely part of the prairie culture or at least was in my and Clark's youth.
I see he wasn't that much older than me either.
When we finally get together for a sit down, remind me to tell you my Robert Dirk stories. He'd have been able to seesaw with Clark back in the day, I think Rob's 6'4"?
Morning Dwayne, yeah I always despised the Islanders, I liked the Flyers and Bruins, but I always followed Gillies and the type of Player he was, the perfect Captain. He could score, beat up the opposition, beat up his own teammates when needed.
I recently saw an interview with Gillies where he said he would have anxiety over upcoming games because he dreaded dropping the gloves with guys like Dave Semenko, who wouldn't lol, but he did anyways. Sadly, too many guys who played the way he did are gone now, its a rough sport.
Other Players from Saskatchewan that can fight, are...Tiger williams, Joe kocur, Derek Boogaard, Gordie Howe, Dave Brown, Wendel Clark, Dave Shultz were all from the sparsely Populated Province of Saskatchewan.
