How long do you good folks cook it?

If you take the time it takes, it takes less time.

The spaghetti per se, about 15 minutes.

The sauce...2-3 hours.

We don't really time it. We just keep "taste-testing" it. I don't like it underdone.

My sauce goes at least four hours depending if I have thrown meatballs, sausage links or nothing in it.

Spaghetti noodles take 11-15 minutes.. at 11 I start tasting a noodle or two at a time a minute apart until the starchy taste is gone- usually at around 12-13 minutes....

Sauce is a whole different subject...

Open the can, pour it in a pan and add a bunch of browned burger and heat till hot. Add to the noodles and voila.

Ironbender,
I cook my pasta for 12 to 13 minutes. I like it al dente. I cook it in a spaghetti pot with a colander inside. When the time is up, move the colander to the sink for draining and run some cool water over the pasta. Without the cool water it will continue to cook. Nothing worse that mushy pasta. The sauce/gravy, depending on where you're from, will heat it up.
Some people will add olive oil to the water. All that does is prevent the pasta from absorbing the sauce when they are mixed.

We typically make thin spaghetti, sometimes angel hair.

The thin spaghetti goes in boiling water, back to boil, and off for 7 minutes.

Perfect al dente.

This...^^^

Pasta is always al dente.

Good pork sausage or home made meatballs...lots and lots of garlic and onions.

Dash of red pepper flake and of course, red wine.

Al dente.

One minute or two under package directions and ideally finished in the sauce.
