Looking for suggestions for a scope, will be used to 400 yards or so on coyote and deer in the 200 yard range and under.
Looking around there doesn't seem to be much under a short ton in weight, but perhaps size (length) is a bigger issue on an 18" rifle.
Curious on suggestions

We used a Redfield 2-7x32 on my daughter's Ruger American Compact 223. Worked great for deer and targets to 200 yds. It seemed a good fit for the rifle as far a size and balance.

I'm not asking about discontinued scopes. An Edsel may be the best car to got to work in, but you can't find one readily.

A smallish variable with a 7x-8x top power, 32-33mm.
If the strait 6x with 36mm objective were still available that would be a decent fit but a fuzz to much size for tastes.

Daughter had one for her first rifle and it wore a Minox Z3 3-9X40 and I thought it looked fine. I still have several of that scope mostly on 17 HMRs. Regardless, I think that general size is fine.

Although the Redfields turn up in the classifieds here often enough.
