My Remington 700 SPS Varmint has a 1 in 12” twist and shoots decently with the Hornady 62 gr BTHP, as long as the temperature is above about 70 degrees F. It is not that accurate when temps are in the 40’s and downright terrible below freezing. The 26” barrel adds velocity and when combined with the higher pressures in warm weather, it actually shoots that long boat tail bullet pretty well. I haven’t tried the 62 gr SP yet, but I anticipate it will shoot acceptably well, since it is noticeably shorter than the BTHP. (I already have a bunch of the soft points loaded up, just have to remember to bring some next time at the range.)
