I'm looking for a spotting scope primarily for range use and light outdoor use. Extreme weather not necessary. Looking for a decent scope in about the $300 range. Lots of brands out there, but lots of conflicting opinions. I was looking for an angle eyepiece and variable approx. 15 to 60, with a 60mm objective. What brands would it be best to look at.

Thanks

Regards,
Dick M.

Talk to Doug at Cameraland. I had very similar criteria a few years ago and he set me up with an Athlon. IIRC it was a little more than $300 but I've had less expensive spotters and when you are trying to see small holes at the range you won't regret a quality spotter.
I'm sure Doug can give you several options.

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

Nitrogen Purged: Nitrogen Purging uses the inertia gas to purge moisture out of the tube giving you better waterproofing and thermal stability.
Waterproof: Waterproof to protects the binocular in the harshest weather conditions or if accidently submerged underwater.
Rotating Ring: Rotating Ring allows you to rotate the scope around tripod supporting ring into the most comfortable and convenient angle for observation.

I've spent enough $$ over the years on bargain scopes where I should have went higher end right off the bat.

My need was to resolve 22 cal. bullet holes in the black at 200 yards. The preferred scope then was a Kowa w/27x eyepiece. Too rich for my wallet or so I thought.

If you get the Athlon please post back how it's working for you.

I compared the Athlon Ares G2 UHD (I think that is correct) for $550 to my older Leica and sold the Leica….It was that good. Just heavy

I actually saw my first Athlon spotter this past week, the 65mm Ares G2. I was amazed, admittedly.
