Ever wonder why it’s called a woodpile when pops was a bit OCD about how it was stacked??

Did woodstack just sound strange?

Had my daughters helping me stack the final bit before midweek weather moves in and I found myself being very meticulous about how it was stacked!

I dump under the furnace canopy onto the concrete with the front end loader right in front of the OWB

One less handling. No use in stacking right now. We are burning it as I cut it.

Turning into my dad has always worried me! If it only involves a woodpile I can handle it!

I’m that way in the spring when I put wood up in the barn but as the season goes on and wood is moved to our mud room & the fire is lit pretty much straight from mid October to late April…I get less picky.

LOL, it’s not just you OP.

We had a tandem truck of wood delivered at the cabin. Wife was helping me move it to be stacked under the cabin. I took wheelbarrow loads and she carried a handful, I’d have to restack hers just to make me happy.

All of that worrying about how it was stacked was for nothing. We’re building a woodshed this spring. Moving it all again.

Ours is stacked under the front porch. I wouldn’t like the look coming up the driveway of a pile of wood. Gonna need it Thu and Fri!

I did have a wood pile many years ago. Used an old grain elevator and just let fall into a big pile.

We have a 30' x 10' awning off the garage where the outdoor boiler is. All wood is cut to 24" length. What needs split is split. Then stacked right by the boiler.

This year was 3 rows almost 7' high 28-30 feet long 1 1/2 roads left.
Once the snow melts back we will start cutting this years wood and shed hunting. Hope to have the wood done by June. Neighbor has a 20 acre clearcut for me to get the wood out of.

Funny, Vermonters show off their wood set to everyone who is interested and most take notice and comment on it, same as a nicely mowed lawn. We stack wood anyplace we can.

We always called it a rick of wood
I ricked up a lot of wood for my pops after I got married and moved out.
Went back home every Sunday and cut up and ricked the wood so that him and my mom would be warm in the winter.
That all stopped when I moved to Commyfornia and Utah started getting the Inversion so bad that they could not have fires anymore.

Wood pile stacked. 8 rows 14' long by 6.5' tall. We've burned 4 rows so far this winter. Dried madrone is great firewood. Doug fir for kindling.

When I was a kid, Dad didn't stack. Or split anything that fit.
Now he does.

Over the last 7 years I've bought several Tri-axle loads of cut/split wood.
And it has laid where dumped until brought into the house.

I just didn't have the ambition to wheelbarrow it to where it would then
be stacked, only to be farther from where it would be used.

Hoping to be cutting next year's soon, to icy to get there now.
It will be brought home, split as it's unloaded and stacked.
Hoping the buying days are over.
