I have a 1994 classic featherweight in 7mm-08 I can't find any ammo for for quite awhile now. 308 still seems pretty plentiful. It's got under 40 rounds through it. Would reboring it to 308 cost much?

I wouldn’t do it, even if possible (I don’t think it is.) That classic 7/08 is very desirable. Look online for ammo - it’s available.

If you re-barrel you can keep the original 7-08 incase you'd ever want to put it back. A re-barreling job is probably more practical in this case.

7-08 is out there. There was a lot of it a moth ago at a store I frequent. Ammo is beginning to show up more regularly. I'd just be patient but in a pinch you can buy all kinds of 7mm-08 on gunbroker (at GB prices of course!)

I can get 308 Federal blue box 150gr or Winchester 150gr for respectfully $25 & $26 a box at Walmart now.

I've had .321 barrels rebored to .338. Cleaned up nicely. Old time schutzen shooters used to perform this rebore regularly since it was the next bore size that would clean up a shot out 32-40. This is less caliber difference than he is proposing so I would think he can go from .284 to .308. Phil

Never had a 7-08 but have several 308s not a lot of difference I’d keep it original and hunt for ammo or reload

For the costs of rebarreling, put the $$$ toward an econo .308. There are a ton of them out there! Just hang on to that ostensibly nice 7mm08! I'm with you on having a rifle that won't cost and arm & leg to shoot, but I think the economics are a lot stronger for... "Double your money, double your fun! Put down your money & have yourself two guns!
Just my take! Best luck! John

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Ok I'll hold off for now. Not buying another rifle unless I sell this one first. I just don't hunt enough big game (only deer now) to justify 2 rifles. At one time I had 9 centerfire rifles alone but all 4 of my kids stopped hunting and shooting when they finished college and moved. None wants any of my guns so I began selling them off about 2 yrs ago. Went from 44 to now 10 total. I'll give it till August. Thank you fellas for the advice, stay safe.

In that scenario, I’d take up reloading. If ya can’t find 7-08 cases, one pass thru a FL die will convert .308 brass to 7-08.
One poster noted the 7-08 is the .308 with the “suck” squeezed out.
I like and have both. Not sure I agree with that opinion.

I'd use the 7-08 on myself before I'd get rid of it for a .308

Would reboring it to 308 cost much? Rebore it to 358winchester I did that with a pre-64 FWT .243. But it was shot out. I’d be hesitant to rebore a shooter. And, to really get full use out of the .358, OP would need to reload. So, reload for what ya got. DF

Not enough of a caliber jump to rebore. I disagree. Wayne York can do it for $350 plus return shipping. Last week he and I discussed reboring a 280 Rem to 30-06. He said, no problem except he would have to set the barrel back a thread to account for the longer 280 case.

Plenty of ammo out there if you look for it. Took a couple of minutes but I found Prvi Partizan @ Midway. 140 gr PSPBT . FWIW I have had really good luck with Prvi stuff in a few calibers that I have used it in. 6.5x55. 7mm Mauser , 308 win.
