Deputy shoots, kills off-duty Vancouver PD officer who fought robbery suspect at his home

BATTLE GROUND, Wash. — An off-duty Vancouver Police officer was shot and killed Saturday by a Clark County sheriff’s deputy responding to reports that an armed robbery suspect was at his home.

Based on a timeline of events released late Sunday night, Officer Donald Sahota, 52, was shot by the Clark County deputy just moments after he was stabbed by a robbery suspect.

The incident started at about 8 p.m. Saturday when a man robbed a gas station in Vancouver and took off in a stolen car.

About 12 minutes later, Vancouver Police found the suspect heading north on I-205. The suspect continued driving north onto Interstate 5 towards Battle Ground, where law enforcement used spike strips on the stolen vehicle.

Court documents say the suspect, identified as Julio Segura, got out of the car and ran towards a house.

Investigators say a woman then called 9-1-1 to report a man pounding on their front door.

She told dispatchers her husband, Sahota, was a Vancouver Police officer and was in the driveway with a gun, trying to detain the suspect.
Investigators say the suspect and off-duty officer got into a fight, and Sahota was stabbed repeatedly with a knife.

The suspect got away and ran towards the house, still occupied by Sahota’s wife.

Investigators say Sahota was able to get a hold of his gun and ran after the suspect, but within seconds, a Clark County deputy got to the scene and shot several rounds at him.

“The off-duty officer/homeowner collapsed on his front porch before responding officers were able to determine he was the homeowner and not the alleged robbery suspect,” authorities said.

Sahota was later pronounced deceased.

Sounds like a real mess...

Prayers for the LEO families.

If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.
