Post em if you got em! What do you use for turkey hunting? Shotgun, rifle, handgun, archery? If it's legal in your area and you'd like to share, please do. One of mine is a Browning Citori Satin Hunter 12ga chambered for 3-1/2" shells with a Jeb's extended and ported choke. Touching off a 3-1/2" turkey shell in this can be a little lively! Lol! Another one is a Remington 870 20ga youth I've set up as a dedicated turkey gun. I've yet to try any archery in all my years turkey hunting as I really like shotgunning for them. Where I hunt, shotguns and archery are what's legal to use. And whatever you use, where ever you hunt, enjoy!

That Jeb's is a .685", this is set up for in the woods. Have yet to need the bottom barrel and for the yardages I use this, it's right on. With your comment in mind, I'll have to try it a little further out and see what it does. Typically when using this, I have a chamber style recoil reducer in the bottom barrel. I love hearing the spitting and drumming coming through the brush!

By far my best shooter. Ithaca M37, 26" with a .675 choke. 3" chamber. Not sure who made the choke. Ithaca Plus chokes are the same as Browning Invector Plus. Briley makes Ithaca Plus tubes, but I think this one may be an Ithaca branded Carlsons. It holds a tight pattern of #5 and #6. More so than the .680 and .685 tubes I have on my A5 and SX4, which aren't a heck of a lot better than the standard full tubes. The thing I like about the Ithaca is hits dead on. It doesn't shoot a little high like my A5 and SX4, nor really high like my Benelli Supoer Nova. Out to 40 yards that red dot is right at the bottom third of the pattern. It also shoulders so I am looking straight down the rib, not down on it. Great gun.
Can we just share pics of our stuff please... lol!
Today is a really snowy day here, coming down like crazy! Time to clean out and organize turkey hunting clothes. I have camo that's probably older than most of the turkey hunters nowadays!

Brand new BPS 20g. Now with a Carlsons TSS choke in it.
My A5 is fairly new. I've got a Kicks Gogglin Thunder .680 in this now. It's light and points very well, but kicks like a mule:
My Maxus II is brand new. Not sure what I'm going to use this for but it takes the bite out of 3 1/2" shlls better than the A5.
This is my SX4. It pulls double duty as a deer and turkey shotgun. Currently has a Browning x-full .685 choke in it. During deer season it has a Kicks Buck Kicker full in it. I had an SX3 some years ago and it had that soft touch camo finish on it and it got really sticky. I dusted it with corn starch and that got rid of the tack. But it looked like it had been dusted in corn starch. Ended up giving it to my brother in law. This SX4 replaced that. The SX is a good line of guns.
I no longer have my Remington 870 SP NWTF gun, or my Remington SP10, or my Browning BPS that was one of the first 3 1/2" BPS and had and engraved reciever. Wish I still had all those.

This one I really like. I think O/U set up turkeys are really cool. I really dig Browning's Cynergy. I might add one of those one day. It would be a really cool gun for buckshot, too.

Nice guns hope you live long enough to get some blood on them....
Other than the Cerakote finish on the metal and the Limbsaver recoil pad and the Patternmaster Code Black turkey choke there's' nothing really custom about it.
You've seen this one: Nice guns hope you live long enough to get some blood on them....
I hope so, too. I'm not a collector. More of an accumulator. I think I'm at 50 or 55 guns so far in the accumulation, haven't counted recnetly. All have been shot, few have been hunted with more than once or twice a season.
Here is a close up picture of my main turkey getter. I am trying to get an idea of the difference in mounts form my old red dot to the one I changed over to.
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....
Your barrels too long! Lol! Very nice and really like the picture of your set-up! Loves me some turkey woods!
24" barrel.
Only reason I took the down the barrel picture was I didn't figure I would kill one of them.
My "set up " as you call it was leaned against a big tree....the turkeys were less than 20 yards in the picture....I shot the one about 30 to 45 minutes later at about 15 yards when he came in the woods 90% to the right of the barrel.
Believe me, I want the sight as low as possible as well. Not super crazy about the Holosun mount but there are not a lot of options out there for that sight. One reason I am looking at the height as compared to what I had been using. The 870 is lower than the way I had the mount on the WBY 459.
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....
In about 2002 or 2003 I put a Swarovski 1-4x24 30mm scope with a circle dot reticle on my SBE....I shot it most of one year killed 6 or 8 turkeys with it then had a miss took it off and went back to beads. My eyes are getting older and I've decided to put it back on this year.
I have both wood and synthetic stocks for my SBE's and 4 different barrels....they both came with mobile choked barrels. I just took a 24" Crio choked barrel to the Cerakote guy today.
Every now and again, I decide to take it old skool. That's a 1948 Model 21 in 16 gauge. The bird didn't survive an old purple............ 1 oz of #6 lead through the modified side. At times, I also carry my grandpa's old Iver Johnson Champion bought new by him in 1929.
A lefty! That explaines it! Lol! Incredibly nice scope and certainly an advantage for older eyes. When I got my first pair of bifocals, I had to give up bead sights, really screwed up my shooting. So for my hunting now, I don't wear my glasses or I use a sight. Maybe I should get glasses without bifocals. I have a similar scope sitting on top of a safe, a Meopta Meostar low power 30mm illuminated reticle with thoughts of maybe trying that, we'll see.
It isn't what happens to you that defines you, it's what you DO about what happens to you that defines you!
I had trigger shoes on target revolvers back in the 70's when I was shooting a lot of bullseye leagues. I feel they're beneficial in that. Never thought of trying one on a shotgun. I'll get comments nowadays when at a pistol range and shoot in a bullseye stance instead of the tactical stances everyone uses today.

Do you add height to the comb so you can get a solid cheek weld?

My Savage .22 Hornet over 3" 12 gauge. It has taken many turkey and a few varmints. Picture taken in a prairie dog town where the Hornet is good out to 150 yards. I also have a .45-70 barrel insert for the 12 Ga barrel accurate on deer out to 100 yards..
I could see that. I coached a lot of kids in SCTP for many years and most people do not know that you get hit twice with recoil. Once in the shoulder and once in the jaw. There is more than one reason we would tell the kids to keep their head down on the stock.

Intertia guns, like the Super Black Eagle, do little to reduce felt recoil. Gas guns are much better at softening the recoil. There's no eliminating the wallop of a 12 g 3 1/2" load of #5, but felt recoil with a gas gun is significantly less than with a inertia gun given the same load. I like my A5 for it's weight and handling, and its a breeze to clean. But in terms of shooting, my Maxus and SX4 are far more comfortable. I can see why someone would want to get their face off the stock shooting one. That scope is high and you'd have to lift up a normal cheek weld to use it. I do susect it might be high enough to compensate for the high shooting characterisitcs of Benelli SBEs and Super Novas at turkey ranges.
"Inertia guns recoil more, blah, blah..." Nobody mentions the recoil from their Remington 870, Mossberg 835, H&R single shot, SxS or O/U. Why is that? The inertia guns recoil less than those pump guns lots of guys tote around, yet the inertia guns seem to frighten some hunters. Silly mindset. I don't choose an inertia gun for clays games because some extra weight and the gas operation of a dedicated clays gas gun makes 200+ rounds in an afternoon on the skeet range easier to absorb. But I'm not gonna lug that pig for miles through the national forest to make the shot I need to kill a gobbler. What I do need is a trim shotgun, dead nuts reliability and ease of cleaning dust, forest floor duff, and after being caught in a thunderstorm on the mountain and catching a good soaking. That is where my M1 shines, takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I've hunted that camo M1 and it's brother Tactical model for near 30 years in all sorts of conditions without the slightest hint of trouble.
More turkey content...

"Lug that pig for miles..." My gas Maxus II 12g 3 1/2" 26" is 6 lbs 14 oz. My inertia A5 12g 3 1/2" 26" is 7 lbs 4 ozs. The the lighter Maxus II has less felt recoil. And arguing reliabilty between intertia guns and gas guns is just dumb. Gas guns just aren't that hard to clean.
"Nobody mentions the recoil from their Remington 870, Mossberg 835, H&R single shot, SxS or O/U. Why is that?" They do.

I'm sorry, of course you're right and other peoples experiences and opinions are wrong. In your words, "just dumb." Don't care to argue, I'm just interested in pictures of dead gobblers and such along with cool guns and experiences from hunters that care to share. I missed your pictures of dead critters with your shotguns?

Not me lamenting the weight and reliabilty of gas guns when exposed to forest dust and rain. As far as other peoples experiences, that would be more better directed at LFC. As far as pictures of dead critters, I have few and I'm not in any of them but one, and its old.
GuideGun, what's it like touching off that 2.5oz artillery shell? I picked up a Benelli Nova, years ago, when Galyons was blowing them out for around $200. Figured it would be a nice backup gun. I fired 1 12ga 3-1/2" 2-1/4oz turkey shell out of it and thought I had loosened every tooth in my head! Lol! I ended up giving it to a guy I didn't like! Haha!
MOGC, does the predator decoy work as good as they say it does? I've coyote hunted for years without one, but they have my curiosity now...
You'll never hear me say the little 20ga 870 doesn't recoil with these 3" TSS shells, because it does! Even with the "recoil reduction" spring system the Knoxx Blackhawk stock has in it. I'm not recoil sensitive, but that doesn't mean I don't feel it!
Over the years, I've carried every type of shotgun turkey hunting. Only exception is a bolt action. And talk about a pig! I carried a Remington SP-10 around for years! But what a thunder stick that thing was!
I've said it before and I'll say it again. What makes all of this so neat to me, is that you can make whatever you want to out of it!
So whatever you use and however you use it, enjoy!
3 years ago I thought my hunting days were over. Busted up my spine so bad, thought I'd never walk again let alone hunt. But a great surgeon and a lot of PT and I'm back at it. I don't get around as good as I used to, but I still get around and I'm still hunting! And loving every precious minute of it!
It isn't what happens to you that defines you, it's what you DO about what happens to you that defines you!

We can if it makes anyone feel better.
My BPS 10 gauge (Geraldine) with a 2 1/4 oz load is THE most absolutely hateful gun I have ever pulled the trigger on. And I've done it hundreds of times. I still hate it. I've shot multiple Mossberg 835's.......... .375's.........416's........... I ran an entire box of 20 500 grain handloads through a .458 Win Mag in one short stint at a sit-down bench off sandbags. In a T-shirt. Geraldine has split my face open TWICE. It's a combination of raw free recoil and gun fit. But Geraldine is the foulest motherhuncher I've ever fired.
I went to pattern 3 shells one day at a bench. All factory Winchester 2 1/4 oz loads...........a 4, a 5 and a 6. I shot two and felt like I had a hatchet buried in my forehead. Never did fire the 3rd shell.
My Remington SP10 10g had way less felt recoil than my Browning BPS 3 1/2" at the time. Sweetest patterning gun I think I ever had. 11 lbs of weight and that gas system ate up the recoil.
Dean, a motion decoy is fantastic for bobcats and fox and about 50/50 on coyotes. For coyotes about half the time it will spook them off and they will absolutely circle downwind if they haven't already. That is an age, dominance and territory thing.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
I saw a Marlin bolt action 12 gage today at my LGS has A 36" barrel, has that cool factor going for it! If it was a 16 gage I'd have bought it!
There's one of those in 10 gauge sitting around here, somewhere.
I have a Marlin Super Goose 10 gauge with 36" barrel sitting around my place too! I would love to have some chokes put in it so I can take it goose hunting again. I killed my first turkey and greater Canadian goose with it.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost....
Was it H&R that offered the "Long Tom"? Single shot 10ga (?) with a long barrel. Actually saw 1 at my LGS and put some fingerprints all over it. Thought about it, went back a couple days later and it was gone.

Yeah Just sold mine this last part of last year Should have probably called it a turkey mower. No place to go anymore. Haven't had a turkey place in a decade + No sense in maintaining a spider condo Mine was a NEF, same as a H&R Had the factory green blob paint scheme.
Couldn't make a photo post Says too many mega bytes or some such doodoo

Yeah, I bought one way back in the day when I was young and full of pep. Lugged that heavy pipe over the national forest for a week or so until I finally connected with a gobbler at 12 yards. Heck with that, I went back to my old Remington 870 Wingmaster that weighed about 3 pounds less.

Probably killed more turkeys than several of the so called turkey guns posted here.
Nope....🥴🥴🥴😄😄😄 You left out the 935??? Why??? 🤔🤔🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣
All I ever used was a savage stevens 311 12ga for about 10 yrs with a set of williams firesights jb welded on the rib.
Mossberg 835,s ( lots of em) for about the last 14 or 15yrs And this year a mossberg 935 which I I aquired in a trade for 1k of M855 ammo.
Mossbergs all set up with the .670 rhino, tru glo pro series sights. Butt stock stuffed with 14 to 15 oz of fishing sinkers and wally world bags, simms limbsaver pad, barrel and forcing cone polished.

Got the new one peice piston in it now. Aint even shot it yet. Gonna run Win LB,s 3.5 6,s in it. Should throw 230 250 into 10 at 40 I'm guessing. Good enough to kill Toms.
On a serious note I shot Rhino chokes for several years...once I shot a Patternmaster Code Black Turkey choke I never looked back at the Rhino. Try some of the 3.5" LB #4s and dont worry about a little less pellet count and look at the patterns I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Nice bigwoods! What part of MI? Buddy has a place in the UP, just west of Iron River and his place is literally right on the Paint River. Done a lot of stomping around up there!
It isn't what happens to you that defines you, it's what you DO about what happens to you that defines you!
Im from the central lower. Lots of good public land along a river that adjoins farm land. I hunted the southwest end of the UP one year and killed a nice Tom up there with this same gun. Beautiful up there!
I don't have pics taken but of a couple of them, but............
This is my current go-to :
But his is what my last gobbler succumbed to :
tell us about your shotgun and choke and turkey call. Nice pics by the way
The gun is a dirt cheap and butt-ugly NEF Pardner 20 gauge with a 3" chamber. Sent it through William Lambert's rehabilitation program. It's got one of his .562-5 tubes in it. The sight is an old Burris Speed Bead 135. Big. But about bulletproof. My daughter's gun is identical to mine in the metal. Hers just has a much nicer looking stock on it. Her's actually averages 15 more in the 10"at 40 yards than mine does (although "identical") using the old skool Federal Heavy 7's. Not TSS.
The SxS is a 1948 Winchester Model 21 in 16 gauge.
My buddy made that call for me as half of a matched set. Hop hornbeam over black gum.

You wouldn't carry that thing around very long til you decided to cut about foot off the barrel and have it threaded for tubes. Then you'd realize you're taking WAY too much whoopin' on the back end of it for all the more effective it is at distance than your 20 gauge.
I have a tricked out Browning BPS 10 gauge here that.........between turkeys and geese.......has filled a couple or three pickups with big, dead birds. Some coyotes along the way, too. With steel shot or coarse lead shot, it's unbeatable. But in the turkey woods, it's just more than I eventually wanted to lug around. An it freakin' HURTS with turkey loads.
I'd like to see that 36" H&R on paper at 60 yards with those shells in his ad. Bet it's not as wicked as he thinks.
I have had several SP10's over the years. I would rather shoot one of those that a 3.5" 12 ga, but would not want to carry the dang things. I used my for duck and goose hunting, never turkey hunted with one. t True story, years ago, I was working part time at a gun store and this little old lady (picture Granny Clampett only not as spry) came in to buy here husband a birthday present. She tells me that she buys him a gun every year for his birthday and starts looking at what we had. She picks out a single shot 10 ga for him. As I am carrying the gun up to the counter for her, she looks straight at me and says, "I bet that will kick his dick in the dirt".!!! I will never forget that.

And $485 ?????? Really ????
Have a BPS 10 myself. Bought it strictly for turkey when I was younger, stronger, and healed faster. Now it gives me a headache first shot with 2 1/4 oz loads. Last time I shot it was 5 years or so ago. 22 lb at 46 steps. Sort of a goodbye hunt because I’ll probably never shoot it again.

IMO the Benelli Steady Grip guns are the best pure turkey gun you can buy. I have a SBE, M1 Super 90 and a Super Nova, all steady grip models and I run FF3's on them all. Have a bunch of others from 410 to 10 gauge but when I go somewhere out of town to chase them I always grab one of my Benelli's. They are just plain bullet proof and pattern great. All three where Indian Creek .665 chokes and I either use Apex 3.5" 2.5oz loads or 3" Apex 2.25oz or handloads.

Absolutely hikerbum! But it's fun to mess around with this stuff, at least for me it is. If we only got what we needed, Yugo's would still be around! Lol!

I can only imagine what a 2.50oz. load of fAiry dust will do to the meat on a turkey.
When Benelli came out with the steady grip I couldn't wait to check one out....felt good looked cool.
Only draw back I noticed was there was no real quiet way of taking the safety off...no way to slip your hand forward and get the safety between your thumb and finger and silently get the safety off without a lot of movement....on a turkey gun that was a deal killer for me.
To each their own but I personally never cared for the Steadygrip/pistol grip on a shotgun. Carried by the sling on my shoulder that protruding grip is digging into my kidney or clipping my funny bone on the inside of my elbow, catching on clothing when taking the gun off the shoulder and in general just being a pain in the azz. The shotgun no longer handles like a shotgun. Just not my thing, but good on those who like them.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
That last gobbler with the BPS 10. And the last time I’ve fired it. April 2015. 46 steps. Ashe Co, NC mountain bird.
Very fitting way for a gun to go into retirement. Yep.
That bird was a little over 22 lbs. biggest body I’d taken till then. 2 years ago I took a bigger bird, a little over 24 on zebco scales, with a Franchi Affinity. Last round I fired out of it because a friend wanted it and I had just bought a Browning Gold Fusion. Had been looking for a good one for a while. Maybe good fortune will smile on it this year.
But what I really want to see is my wife get one with her Ithaca lever action single shot .410. Her Dad got it for her way pre-teen. It patterns #9 TSS well at 30 yards. We came very close last year but y’all know how turkeys can be when you’re trying to get one for someone else. Best of luck to all this season. May you all have glorious sunrises to remember and friends to share the memories.

Bought this old 1300 used about 1990. It's still one of my favorites.
Always had a soft spot for those old laminated 1300's. A full pound lighter to carry than the 870 Turkey of the same era. If it's got the NWTF engraving on it, it'll demand a pretty fat price tag these days.

Nice gun !!!
Thanks. Unfortunately this one doesn’t have the engraving. My brother bought one with engraving not long after I got mine. I love how light they are, except when I pull the trigger (grin).

Thankfully, turkey guns are "carry a lot......shoot a little" kinds of deals.
just a generic 87o youth 20 gauge 21" barrel with a remington x-tra full tube and 3" winchester double XX #6 with a beartooth slip on pad for the LOP. betta fish face turning white
I always have a couple gallon sized zip lock bags along in case I find some morels... My buddy's family land I hunt has a lot of them and his mom, the property owner, loves them. I always make sure to get a bag, or 2, for her.

An established turkey hunter once told me, "you'll break that baby sight off!", or something to that effect... lol! Looking good LFC, we'll have you shooting fairy dust in no time! Hahahaha!

LOL, come to the dark side, we have cookies......
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

What do you think of the Scalarworks mount? I think its one of the better products I've seen in awhile. I have that same setup on my Franchi 20ga. I just put a Scalarworks and Aimpoint H2 on my SBE3.

What if you was to swaller one if them little pellets not knowing it....might pOke its way though your stomach lining and end up in your big toe.
Point is Dean TSS is not required to kill a turkey....better get started it's going to take a while to get to Wisconsin by wagon train.
Did you watch the video long enough to see the destruction test with the guy banging the sight on the top edge of a metal drum.....ps Don't try this with a Bushnell.

Mount is cool no doubt....
Red Dot sights are something I knew nothing about I was always leary of their reliability.
I bought the Trigicon model i bought because an active duty special opps Marine told me it was the model to buy.
I use a dual illuminated RMR with a 9 moa dot on one of my carry Glocks. I will be mountinmg another on a Glock 20 10mm I carry where there are bears (and car-breaking, poaching rednecks). I think it would be perfect on a turkey gun. I really like the dual illuminated models.
I lugged a SP10 around for a while. Nicknamed Lexington Steele…
Then I decided to lighten up. Bought a 870 compact camo 20 gauge for $335, had my gunsmith drill and tap it, put an Aimpoint 9000SC on it and a Rem turkey super full choke. Loaded with Federal HW #7’s, it is a perfect run and gun, drag anywhere, turkey getter.

I never had a dedicated turkey gun for years. For my brother and me it was always whatever was handy..... usually one of our several 16 gauge SxS's. I did kill a couple in the fall, busting flocks, with my duck gun, a 3 1/2 inch Beretta 391 Extrema. I had thought to try some 3 1/2" turkey loads I saw. I shot one at what I thought was a pretty sketchy distance for a shotgun, but the bird went down like he'd been struck by lightning. Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I shot the next one a little further, same result. That Beretta is a very soft shooting gun. Now, however, I have a dedicated turkey gun, and it's not soft shooting. I bought a TC Encore with .50 cal inline ml barrel after the first time I retired because I figured I'd have time to muzzleloader hunt. While I was about it, I got a .25-06 AI barrel and, since I didn't have a "dedicated turkey gun", I got a 24", camo, fiber optic sights, extended choke tube, turkey barrel. (All in all, that "muzzle loader" cost me around $2200 with the Leupold scopes for the ML and rifle barrels.) It's worked pretty well for me. It's pretty light and handy, but man, when you touch off one of those 2 ounce turkey loads you want to be hanging on to it. The pattern hit's a bit high with the rear sight all the way down. I think the same thing's going on there that you have with large caliber revolvers: ratio of light gun to heavy load (with a lot of barrel time) and the muzzle has risen somewhat before the shot leaves the muzzle. This is more pronounced with heavier loads in this gun. I could put a red dot or scope on it, I guess, but it's not that big an issue to me. At the ranges I shoot turkeys with it I just hold on the base of the neck and down they go. I have been considering filling the plastic forend with a couple of pounds of lead, seeing what that will do. Maybe an old sock with a pound or two of shot. We'll see.
Here's my four. The Winchester 1300 Turkey 12 gauge was my first real shotgun that was set up strictly for turkey hunting. It has a Hastings ported .660 choke, and a set of Tru-Glo fiber optic sights glued to the rib. It probably patterns better than anything I have, but the trigger sucks big time. The 11-87 compact 20 gauge is the one the grandkids use. It has an Indian Creek Black Diamond choke, and both me and granddaughters have taken a number of turkeys with it. The other two are new to me this year, after I sold the Benelli SBE2 and the 870 Compact 20. I had an 11-87 years ago that I sold in favor of the Benelli, so I bought another one. 21 inch barrel, Carlson Longbeard choke, and 1.5X5 Weaver shotgun scope with the Diamond reticle. The other one is a Mossberg SA-20 Turkey. I put a Carlson Longbeard choke on it too. I also put McCarbo trigger springs in the 11-87 and the Mossberg. I shot Winchester Longbeard #5's in both 12's and 20's.
I used to roll 2-1/2" shells for some old Belgium SxS hammer guns and an old Husqvarna underlever hammer gun. Never thought to go with 2". Bringing back some fond memories with the pictures of yours shrapnel! Thanks!
