GoFundMe pauses anti-vaccine mandate protest fundraiser

The popular crowdfunding site GoFundMe has paused a multi-million dollar fundraiser for the convoy protest now tying Ottawa in knots, saying it wants to ensure that the fundraiser complies with its terms of service.

Late Wednesday afternoon, a notice suddenly popped up on the "Freedom Convoy 2022" fundraising page.

"This fundraiser is currently paused and under review to ensure it complies with our terms of service and applicable laws and regulations," the company wrote. "Our team is working 24/7 and doing all we can to protect both organizers and donors. Thank you for your patience."

The company did not say how long the fundraiser would be paused, or what might happen to the $10.1 million already collected from more than 120,000 donors. Several questions to the company from CBC News have not yet been answered.

The announcement by GoFundMe came on the same day Ottawa's police chief said some of the money donated has come from the United States.

Its puzzling why you continue to cite a news outlet that has lied to the Citizens of this Country repeatedly. They have been fingered by every news outlet on the Planet as being fake news.
Yes the funds are being held for the reasons that Gofundme state, and that is all the truth one needs. CBC is pure slop.

I posted the story because that's what CBC said has happened. Is it true? Who cares?

When you wish to promote your views, you have to know what others are saying. It's the other side of the coin.

Posting a CBC article, or an Ottawa Citizen article, or a CTV article, is not designed to change your mind. It is to show what other media outlets are saying. To keep informed. You talk about freedom, yet you chastise anyone for posting a news article that is not on your list of approved sources.

You and others say that CBC, CTV or some newspapers are biased or misrepresenting the truth. These outlets are what most people read every day. You don't have to believe them, but you should be aware of what's being said.

I realize its beside the point, but I care if its true or not. LOL

I am there, the statement by gofundme is true, the rest is hearsay.

What part of the article is hearsay? I posted a CBC article whose headline reads the GoFundMe fundraiser is paused. If you have other or conflicting information, please feel free to share it. That is the best way to have a discussion.

I didn't say that I agreed with it. The article is not propaganda. 673 said he checked and it is true. I don't know exactly how they will determine if all the contributions conform with the terms of service. Or how they do that.

It's not the CBC. It's GoFundMe. It's their call.

I will have a go. I think they will have to go through every donation and see if it complies with GoFundMe's terms of service. I believe GFM gets a cut. I am unsure of what happens if they discover that money came to them improperly. Do they just send it back? Report it to the authorities?
