Saw one at a little local shop today. Post-million serial number, pistol grip, light colored stock with pressed checkering, no counter window, either a steel or aluminum rotor, chambered in 300 Savage, and the old style side lever safety. Is that enough info for one of you knowledgeable collectors to identify model?

Yep. Post-1960 model 99E, probably 1966 to 1974 based on the checkering style.

I didn't ask the price, wasn't really interested in it, already have a 99F in 300 that's in better condition. It had a crack in the "cheek" of the buttstock, loose forend, and looked like it had been re-blued.

Yeah... time to just walk past that one unless it was very cheap and you wanted a project action.

I have a 1960 model 99 E series A in 300 savage. This was pops gun. Need some pics. Welcome to the Fire. SERIES A wasn't stamped on 99's in 1960.. I think the gun will be later than you think. If you give us the serial number (you can X out the last 2 digits if you like), we can help date it.
