Checked on cabin #4 today to make sure there are no squatters living there. 15 degrees and snow on the ground, would have been nice for gun deer season. Tromped around looking for sheds....zero.

If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

I did the same on the way home from the Duluth gun show. Temps were a bit colder than you and the wind was pretty stout. I didn't do any wondering around as the snow is a good knee deep and my Sorrels don't fit the snowshoe bindings. Instead, I shoveled the steps, filled the bird feeders, and turned off the water heater.
Had a $120 electric bill for a cabin that had been used only 4 days that billing period. Trying to narrow down what is causing the expense. Thought the in floor heating in the porch got turned on but that room was cold today. The well pump will be next. That was an issue two years ago but I did not hear or feel it running today.

It was a nice day to look for sheds. Saw a bunch of deer, didn't find any sheds.

A Wisconsin log cabin. How thick are those logs? What kind of wood? Does it stay warm?

Are squatters an issue, or just being cautious?

I saw some deer a couple days ago. They were going through the brush so didn't get a real good look but I did see a fawn and a buck which still had antlers. Don't know if that helps or if it means anything.

Are squatters an issue, or just being cautious? Just being cautious. 4years ago someone broke in, stole some items but left. They put some of the items up for sale on Craig's List and sold some in a pawn shop. Authorities were notified and two guys and a girl got caught.

some of my dads friends had really nice camps in NW PENN back in the 70s and 80s and it was always an issue with people breaking in and vandalizing them in the winter months

You may as well leave the door unlocked, leave nothing worth steeling.

We got broken into last winter.
The fückers stole all the tools, my portable heater, and destroyed the steel door.

That is a really cool looking cabin, round oak!!! Looks like a pristine wooded location. Any water, nearby?? Lake, stream, or river??

They put some of the items up for sale on Craig's List and sold some in a pawn shop. Authorities were notified and two guys and a girl got caught. In Arkansas, my brother and three friends owned a nice duck hunting lodge, a couple of cabins, boat dock, etc. in a remote area. They used to pay one of the locals $100.00 a month to take care of it. My brother said they were actually paying him to "not burn it down." He took care of the place and could use it to relax and watch teevee, and one of their boats to hunt ducks, etc. They figured it was damned good insurance. They never had any problems. My brother said the "local caretaker" looked like one of the good ol' boys from Deliverance. Guess no one wanted to mess with him. L.W.
