Anyone have any intel on where to get black powder ? I realize the current situation with reloading supplies and ammo in general is still a bit of a problem, but black powder has proven to be even more illusive…..lol.. I recently finished a 54 cal kit gun and so far all I’ve been able to do with it is admire its good looks..hehe I’m in Palmer, any info or leads to pursue would be appreciated. Thanks Ben

You might check with McKinley Mountain Men. A couple weeks ago I was in Great Northern Guns in Anchorage and they had pyrodex. They may have some black. It would be worth a call. I think Arctic Ammo had some pyrodex when I was in a couple weeks back. I don’t know if they ever carry black powder.

Yes. Great Northern is reopened. New management I assume.

Thanks guys, made some calls. It’s doable but not very easy at this point. Great northern has a shipment coming in they said, just unknown on when and if there will be any left. Three bears only has pyrodex currently. I’ll pursue the McKinley mountain men group as well, Might as well join anyways, probably be fun. There’s a guy up in Fairbanks, “Nor’ West Company” that has some, but it’s the logistics of getting it from there to here. guy was real nice on the phone and said the best thing would be just have someone drive it down… so, If anyone makes trips back and fourth to Fairbanks let me know I’ll make it worth your while!

Did you check with Arctic Ammo to see if they have any?

Hudge, I did, it was a very quick “negative”, followed by not much interest in helping me track any down. I didn’t take it personal, I like Arctic Ammo, they’ve treated me fair, probably just get tired of people asking for ammo and reloading stuff o suppose..

When I started reloading just before COVID hit, I talked to them about getting two certain types of powder. They had me fill out a form with what I was wanting and my contact information. I never heard a peep out of them. I know they got one of the powders I wanted, as I got it there off the shelf a few months later. I’ve had better luck getting powder at 3 Bears then anywhere else here. I can’t complain though, they still get a lot of my “toy” funds.

I was just in the Anchorage Sportsman's Warehouse, yesterday. They had a bunch of Pyrodex in stock, behind the gun counter.
Thoroughly enjoying Alaska since 2001.

358Norma, thanks so much! I’ll shoot you a message, and will happily pay ya for it. And thanks DanInAlaska, seems like pyrodex is around several places, but I’d like to find black powder if I can
