Anyone used the 350 Legend yet. I built one on a model Seven last year and hope to get it scoped and sighted in in the next couple weeks. Really interested to see if anyone used it on deer and how it preformed ?

My brother’s buddy uses it exclusively the last few years. Inside 200 it seems to be a pretty good hammer. I have zero first hand experience with it tho. It does seem to be one of the few ammo choices available around here.

Sample of one, my granddaughter used Hornady 170gr factory load out of a 16" AR on her first deer.. 40 yards broadside, complete penetration a bit too far back through the liver. Deer went 50 yards, laid down and couldn't get up when we approached. Internal damage, given the shot placement, was what I've seen from milder cartridges like the .44 mag, .30-30 or .35 Rem.

I'm thinking about getting a barrel for my Encore. Up until 2 years ago, we had to use a shotgun with slugs in my county. They made it legal for straight wall rifle cartridges so I'd like to jump on board.

He's my question for those who are experienced with it, what type of factory ammo would someone recommend for deer?

If you must use a 350 Legend...myself I don't care or can afford to chase shot deer.....if you keep shots under 100 yard its OK....I tried it for one hunt shot a nice 8 point at 140 yards it ran on the neighbors land and I was not allow to recover it....they tagged and took it....
Stick to the 450 Bushmaster and good bullet only bullet made to use is Cutting Edge Bullets 160 gr. Raptor out of ever deer I've shot one went more than 30 yards all the others were ...DRT....

Stonecutter,

The last two "Md Youth Deer" deer season weekends we have 42 kids come into a local hunt club for a deer drive weekend. About 30 of the kids were caring the new .350 Legend using mostly Winchester and Hornady ammo offerings....all the deer died. The .350 Legend is an impressive killer for it's small size.

I'm in the same boat as you, been using or say my grandson has been using my T/C Pro hunter 20 gauge slug gun. I have sense sold the barrel off keeping the frame. My grandson will likely end up with a Ruger in .350 Legend. I was hoping Henry would offer their lever action rifle in the .350 Legend. Still waiting.....

Sounds like you have some real gems for neighbors. I hope you get the chance to return the favor at some time in the future.

Good morning to you Doc. Not to highjack the thread, but these are the two barrels that I'm considering. The Match Grade barrel is 1:16 twist and the Arthur brown barrel is 1:14 twist. Does anybody out there have an opinion on which one would be best? The Match Grade barrel in SS is a couple of hundred bucks more.

I shot a buck last fall with the 180 grain winchester factory load. 156 yards and he dropped in his tracks. I have a remington 700 Lh action at shaw right now getting a 22 in. stainless barrel. What barrel do you have on your model 7 ?

The less expensive Eabco barrel will certainly do for deer hunting.

I bought a 350 Legend upper for my AR-15 in 2019. It shoots MOA or less at 100 yards with Winchester 150 grain Deer Season XP. I shot a mature doe with it in 2020. One shot at 45-50 yards through the ribs. Complete penetration and she ran about 25-30 yards and piled up. I'm happy with it. My hunting buddy shot a doe this year with the same ammo from his Ruger American Ranch Rifle. Same results.

Barnes will have a factory load this year so presumably a component bullet too.

I shoot the all copper Maker TREX 150 grain in mine now. Awesome blood trail and short tracking

I used one in Ohio this year. I wasnt fortunate enough to shoot a deer. Plenty of other guys killing deer with them. I am going to use it in Alabama next year on my meat hunt on does November. Plenty of deer to shoot and most ranges from 75-150 yards. I think it will be a good test for it.
Im using the winchester deer season 150s.

I have not been tempted by one. Already have a well worn Marlin in 35 Remington that does the same thing. I have put enough 35 cal bullets at modest velocity through deer that I would be plenty confident using one at ranges under 200 yards though.

If the 200gr cast I just started casting works as good as I hope, I may take mine out for deer this year. I think it will be fine but without any down the barrel yet I don’t want to assume they will work well…

Couple buddies bought them for their kids to use in the PA special regulations areas, they killed a bunch of deer with them. They seem to work fairly well from what I’ve seen.

I’ve personally stayed with the 450 Bushmaster for the straight wall only areas

450BM is great, the only thing I don’t like about it is I can’t find brass for it and when I do it’s $1 each… 350 Legend is about a 1/3 the price.

N of 1. I shot a doe at about 50-60 yards this year. 180 grain Winchester. She ran about 50 yards or so and piled up. Great exit wound. It will be hard for me to pick anything else up, but I have a 450 BM that hasn't drawn blood yet, so it's next.
