Not sure if it belongs here or in the Custom/Wildcat section: Either way didn't think that I could pass on it. S/N 79-96xxx DOB 1985 near as I can figure.... I assume it is NOT the original Bbl.

Very cool find. I ran across a factory 6PPC the other day. It was the varmint model M77 MK2. Laminated stock stainless model. Could have went home with it for $600, but passed and bought a model 70 22-250 instead.. The Ruger was probably more of a money maker, but more of a custom affair needing a new dies set and hard to find brass etc... Cool find on that 280 AI. Looks like someone wittled away at the barrel channel. I'm assuming its freefloated? Hopefully properly glass bedded too/but probably not. Cool find nonetheless..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Sweet! Hoping it is aftermarket barrel. Those tangs were hit or miss on factory barrels. Go shoot and report back. 😎

If it was a factory barrel it would have the Ruger writing on it.

If it was a factory barrel it would have the Ruger writing on it. Writing can be removed, but shanks can't be added.

Unless it was rechambered and factory writing indexed down...
I agree it looks after market though. Those came in "7mm Express" at one point in time. Could have been bumped to AI but doubtful.

I got my first M77 in a trade for a Rem 740 about 1982 or so. I took a LOT of deer with that rifle at various ranges, and always used hand loads. I recently gave it to my youngest grandson. It still shoots MOA at 200 yds. and his older brother was amazed that the 'OLD rifle' would shoot so well. HaHaHa!! I'm loading 130 TTSX over 49gr. of Varaget in LCNM cases.
