I've got a Ruger #1 RSI .308 international with the mannlicher stock in stainless/walnet - it's my daughter's rifle, officially, for her to use as she grows up.
I picked up a #1H in .375 H&H stainless/laminate.
I have a project idea to create a "father/daughter" matching set of Ruger #1 mannlichers by swapping the walnut stock on the RSI International for a laminate mannlicher, and having a matching laminate mannlicher stock made for the .375 H&H.
Any thoughts?
I found a guy who can cut the laminate mannlicher stocks for the Ruger #1, but they're all 20", and I would like to keep the 24" barrel so the barrel sticks out a little, similiar to the profile of a Nylon 66 with the stub-barrel sticking out the end, or the old (old) style Mauser mannlichers from the 19-teens. I wanted a Rosewood laminate for both, but the shop cutting the stocks for me only had "Royal Jackalope" -- or whatever Royal something-or-other he called it in stock, so that's what we're going with. Sorry, I just looked it up and it's "Royal Jackaranda" - I've been calling it Royal Jackalope all day at work.
I also found a master-smith willing to pillar and bed the matching mannlicher stocks onto both guns.
That's my thought anyway. Just a concept for now.
Any gotchas I should be worried about?
