Thanks JB. I'll refer to a couple articles you crafted for 1) Rifle mag #295 (Nov 2017) Barrett Fieldcraft .243 Winchester. 2) Handloader #336 (Feb 2022) .284 Winchester The Phoenix of Rifle Cartridges.

Both of these articles are typical of your writing where you give a fairly in-depth discussion and evaluation of the topics. Along with your unique style of telling the story. Both were just the right length.

Both of these articles would suffer in my opinion if an editor said sorry John, gotta chop 300 words off those to fit in the book. Then the compromises begin and your product begins to look like others in the same magazines I cite above where, say the topic is comparing the 4350 powders. This article was somewhat short and other than a few references to the authors experience with 4350's in a couple cartridges lacked much depth as I read it. Lack of value added content, but it did fill some space in the magazine.

Closing thought, please do not give this "attention span" thing much weight when you craft the Rifle Loony News.

You're not going to see any effect on my (and Eileen's) writing in Rifle Loony News. We write to the length that allows us to explain everything we want to!

Which is one advantage of writing without the constraints of advertising (there is none in RLN), or paper publishing.

Confessions of a perpetual bitcher. In the past, I have made critical remarks about Rifle and Handloader. I was wrong to do that, a neighbor just gave me a huge box of last year's offerings from the mainstream mass market gun magazines. What a wakeup call. The big box of high gloss bullschidt is in the garbage...where it belongs.
