Went out and played a round of golf yesterday. We had just finished a short par 3 when we noticed a coyote walking across the fairway of the next hole, a long par 4. To our amazement it looked at us for several seconds and then laid down. I had honors, so I hurried to the tee box. I dialed my 3 wood in for approximately 150 yards. He laid there, not concerned in the least. (probably seen me play before and knew he was safe in the fairway) I teed up, carefully checked the wind. I was so focused that I didn't notice that all three of my playing partners were hunters too. The carnage began. The coyote looked around like it was hailing (kind of looked like it was) Eventually one guy said "hey, can I borrow some balls?" I don't know how many shots we took as a group but I personally got about a 34 on that hole. (double-double-quadruple-mega bogey, in golf terms) The coyote finally walked off, possibly a little smarter, but definitely with a diminished fear of humans. We finally retrieved enough balls to finish the round. Rest of the game was kind of boring after that. I wonder if the NRA offers "modified" golf lessons for just such an occurrence?

I always figgured golf would be more fun if I were allowed to hit the ball as close to the hole as I could, then go prone and shoot at it with an accurate rifle. The number of shots to hit the ball would be your score for that hole... Virgil B.

I had some good holes in the past too. Once on the driving range a swallow flew in front a drive. Put it this way, I can smack a 3 wood a good 300 yards (just not often in the fairway ). This little guy got in the path of the ball at all of 15 feet. Can you say "Poof?"
Another time, a large shrew tried to make it across the fairway. After a pretty good chase, he finally got pissed and stopped and stood on his hind legs as if to say "leave me the F alone!" If memory serves, I was equiped with a 7 iron that day. Topped the shot a bit, a slight hook, but still managed to send the little guy about 40 feet --- well, at least half of him.
Then there was the time there were horses along the left side of the fairway ..... Better not go there .

There is a golf course here in Missouri that I frequent that is loaded with quail, man I'd like to replace my driver with a 20ga!
Walk softly and carry a big bore!

gents, Several years ago, a pair of 3 yr. old brownies got caught up in a bunch of twine and stakes that our course utilized as boundaries marking wet areas. Imagine the suprised look on the faces of the foursome ahead of my group when the whole kit and kaboodle was heading for them at top speed! All four duffers froze in "shock and awe," which was a good thing indeed! The bears, indecisive of what to do when faced with the prospect of running into four such "fearsom looking" golfing fanatics, made discression a better part of valor and left the area. They performed a right-angle "hook" movement that would have made Tony Dorsett proud! This was bear-ly 20 yards from the foursome! If I have time later, I'll go into the face-off a pard and his 3 iron had with a caribou at the Kenai course... best, bhtr

When I was stationed in Ft. Stewart GA, the course on post had 'gators in some of the water hazards. Between the gators and the snakes it kinda made you forget about retrieving some balls and take the penalty.

Muley, evrybody knows that you use a lob wedge on small rodents... That way you get another swing as they come back down. THAT'S where you get the distance

Scott, Never golfed around gators, but did the "snake" thing for several years in and around Thailand. I have never been shy around brown or black bears; however, snakes make me PUCKER! (not sure what gators would do) best, bhtr

When I saw the subject line I thought you were going to suggest using all the lawyers that play as targets....
