I'll start with three:
  • Kimber full-size 45acp, extra 8 round mag, Fobus paddle and paddle mag pouch, 185gr fodder = 54.6oz for 16rnds
  • 329pd 44mag, two HKS speed loaders, AMS flap holster,Ams dual loader pouch, 300gr fodder = 52.5oz for 18rnds.
  • M&P40c 2.0 4" 40sw, extra mag, Tege paddle and fobus mag paddle mag pouch, 180gr fodder = 51.75oz for 26rnds.

Funny how these weights are similar.

18 rds of 124 gr HST's. I've never bothered to weigh a holster. If it rides well, retains well, and draws well, I don't really care what it weighs.

This is my "always" gun. Kahr CW40 (40 S&W). 26 oz loaded with 7 rounds mixed 200gr WFN and 140gr Underwood, laserguard and pocket holster. Don't frequent areas where I feel the need for reloads. The the older I get, the more weight conscious I become. My compromise.

Need a definition. Carry where, when, how often? Seems a bit heavy for every day, all the time.

You're right.
For me, as a geezer, it depends on what I'm up to. When I'm having nightmares of methies everywhere, I pack the 40sw and extra mag. When I'm fishing over next to Yellowstone I carry the 44mag and a speed loader or two. When I'm feeling nostalgic I'll carry the 45acp and extra mag. I never leave the house without some weapon and if nothing else I drop the PF9 in my pocket.

Great choice. This or that KelTec will do nicely. I am gland not everyone on this board lost their mind. Gentlemen, you know the encounter will be over in 5 seconds or less about 90%+ of the time? I hate to see you carry all that useless excess weight.

The weight of a 1911 is distributed such that it's a pleasure to carry IWB all day long. I don't even notice it, and it's well worth it for the increased power, accuracy, and control it lends itself to when shooting. A 230 grain .45 caliber bullet that penetrates 13 inches and expands to just shy of .90 caliber is also confidence inspiring.

Every time I leave my property. I started carrying the M&P almost 4 years ago. Prior to that it was a Springfield XD40 Service model. That started in 2004. From 1999-2004 it was an HS/2000 which was the forerunner to the XD. 1990-1999 I mostly carried a S&W 659. 1985-1990 it was a 4" S&W 66.

I carry year 'round with temps running from the 90's with pretty high humidity in the summer down to -20 and colder in the winter.

I've mostly carried full sized guns though I do have "compact" pistols but carry then only if I must. I am not a great pistol shot so try to tip the odds in my favor as much as I can. A stiff, heavy duty leather belt coupled with a holster that distributes weight over a large area goes a long ways towards making it comfortable to carry a heavy gun.

My "little" guns are a Kahr CW9 and Kimber CDP II Custom. I recently picked up a Taurus GX4 to have a few more rounds available. I carry two spare mags with these too.

LOL. That's my bathrobe pocket gun, i.e., an Airweight J-Frame (S&W Model 38, No Dash) snubby .38 Special.
