Picked up meds at pharmacy the other day and pharmacist asked about shingles booster. I said I never heard of a booster. She said she could schedule 1st of 2 parts if I was interested. $180 each of 2 shots . I said I'm on medicare. (doesn't pay") she says. I said I have medicaid suppliment.(doesn't pay) she says. I then said not interested and I honestly think she was disappointed. Anybody on here get it ?

yes, fortunately it is covered by my insurance. I get the second shot at the end of the month, Pharmacists said I needed to wait 2-3 months between shots.
First shot knocked me on my butt for a day. Ruined a weekend. I scheduled the next on a Thursday so I can call in sick on Friday if I feel the same next time around.

I went into my pharmacy and requested the Shingles vaccine. My dad had it and it was a terrible experience for him.
The lady said I didn’t qualify because I wasn’t old enough. I offered to pay cash dollars and she said only for 50 and over. I know several people younger than me that have had shingles.

I got both shots. It was covered by my Medicare plan. No bad effects at all. Most of my older friends have gotten the shots.

Got mine before I went on medicare, so it was covered by insurance. Had shingles years ago, no fun.

I got the 2 shots, cost me $180 each. I had mild side effects. If you talk to people who have had shingles, you will pay the money and get the shots. With these shots there is a 94 percent chance that you won't get shingles.

I have had 3 siblings get the shingles. I paid for the shots.

If you can get your doctor to give the shot it will likely be covered by most insurance. Check first.

I got both shots free.
I was waiting in line for a prescription and the lady asked if I wanted one. I asked how much and she said it was free.

You are correct. My wife had shingles at 39. Had serious implication for her left eye which required drops for 2 years to help resolve.

Thanks for this. It is one Vax I am thinking I should get.
Any concern or reason not to - assuming one had Chicken pox as a kid ?

I have had 3 siblings get the shingles. I paid for the shots. Yep. Everyone I know that had shingles said it was by far the most miserable thing they had ever had. And I remember my late Grandmother being in bed for weeks with it crying her eyes out. And she was a damn tough ole Farm & Ranching wife. Never saw her cry or complain about anything else. Ever. Checked with my pharmacist the other day. He said my Insurance will cover the shots. Plan on getting mine on Friday.

Medicare took care of mine. I'm not interested in the risk of shingles. Only side effect is my shoulder was sore for a day or so. No big deal. Not interested in any other vax.

2 shots last fall, 2-3 mo apart. Either Medicare or my State insurance covered it. Sore shoulder is all for me. Knocked my wife sideways for 2 days.

Shingrix is a real vaccine. It prevent getting shingles, and is a two-shot dose.
I would question the statement that insurance/Medicare would not cover it.
It looks s still worth the cost if self-pay; ask ANYONE who has had shingles.

Apparently if you have Medicare with a supplement, it does not cover. Medicare advantage plans cover it. Thats how it was explained to me by insurance agent. Regular insurance plans cover it.

I'm six weeks in with the shingles, down hill side I hope. Every aspect of it is one miserable son of a bitch!. Wish I would have gotten the vaccine for it. Haven't had much sleep in these six weeks but haven't missed any work (not a physical job), accept to see the Doc. not knowing what was wrong at first..... suggest getting the shot if you've had Chicken pox and are in, or close to your senior years.
