Anyone else here ever had a 99 rebarreled by McGowen Precision? I sent an EG in last year and paid for the barrel in full at the time of order. Was told 20-25 week lead time, and I'd be contacted for the payment on labor/return shipping when it was done.

This is week 27/8(not sure when it arrived, just departure date on my end) and not a peep yet via phone or email... just starting to get a bit antsy. I figured I'll wait till 30 weeks before I try to contact them, given the nutso state of commerce in general right now.

I just wondered if a bit of extra turnaround time vs estimated was the norm?

I've yet to work with a gunsmith that met his estimated timelines.

Worst was a 2 year wait for what was estimated as a 4 month job.

Not for a 99, but I had McGowen custom contour and fit a 260 Rem barrel on a Ruger 77 RL last year. They quoted me 12 - 13 weeks and they shipped it back to me in the 13th week. If its any consolation, the wait should be worth it. Fit and finish on mine are beyond excellent and it shoots little groups.

I would call them after the 30th week, though.

Ugh, I hope not. It's not even anything exotic. Just getting a 300 that had really bad headspace rebarreled to 250 Sav with a 1-10 twist. I was fiddling with some different ideas, but I'd been wanting a 250 anyway, and they worked through the magazine fine, whereas some of my experimental cartidges were iffy feeding.

Thanks. The rifle itself was a rat, but a very good shooter. It just ate brass terrible with the headspace being so bad, so I decided to do something with it. I'll be happy as long as the bluing is even and it fits the forearm well. It's supposed to be an exact contour copy of the original barrel that was on it.

2-3 years ago they did a barrel and cerakote on a marlin 94 for me, it took around 6 months. If your antsy call or email them and ask. These days lead times can be tough to predict, its hard for business to get supplies, keep and hire workers. even just a couple of key people out for a week or 10 days for the bug set everything back.

I'll probably shoot them an email over the weekend, or next week. I just looked and it says right at the top of their website not to call for order status inquiries right now, so I'm guessing I may be waiting quite a while longer.
