A .338? In a Ruger paddle stock? For $500? Dude, how much do you enjoy the pain?

By the time you re-barrel it, you could have bought something decent for less money. And more than likely more accurate than a Ruger.

I paid $80 for a 30-06 Tanger with bulged muzzle 3 decades ago, cut it to 17" and have hunted it since. 1.25 MOA. Just remarried it to a 270 take-off ($60) that looks like it will go MOA or better with factory. That's the way it is done. With the bulge at 18" it is doubtful it could safely (and wisely) be cut back to legal length - not in that caliber.
I would not go over $200 for the boat paddle, then re-barrel. You are buying only the action and handle. The new barrel and smithing will bring the cost up to what a functional used rifle should go for.
And it will probably need trigger work and glass bedding/free-floating - More $

Maybe, point it out to the seller and get him down to 250 then send it to Ruger to be rebarreled. That's the only way it would be worth it for me Yep

Buy it and have Gunswizard rebarrel it .

It would not be worth the headache unless you could get it for $250, or less. Even then, it's a gamble.
