Recently picked up 5-6 new rifles and needing optics for. Leaning towards 4-16x50 V4 Zeiss but need more opions.
Must haves 3-12, 4-16 or similar power 50mm obj might consider 56 for a couple of them. 30mm tube $1k budget each give it take a bit
Need something that stands out in low light performance as most of my hunting is thick words. Any help greatly appreciated.

Guess I need to explain every place I hunt next time. I said most of my hunts are in the woods but also spend a good amount of time on AG fields. Didn’t realize this was gonna turn into a [bleep] show. Just wanted some simple answers. Y’all have at it.

I was just thinking if there are five or six new rifles involved then a couple could be optimized differently for thick woods vs large ag fields. Generalists that are too broad are often too thin at any particular purpose.

Splittine, I had a Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44 on the custom 280 AI you just bought from me. IMO the 3-15 power range gives you a good combo for shots at close range in the woods and distance. Last year shot a big doe in the woods on 3 power at 70 yds. couple of days later I shot a buck 283 yds on 15 power. A chip shot with that rig. You might not need 15 power on the top end but its good to have to judge antler size or to make sure one is bald and not a small spike if you are filling a doe tag. Its a good all around scope. If your not a Leupold fan I would look at the scope Big Stick posted. It looks like a good scope for the money. I also like the Trijicon credo. I have 2 of them.

Not sure about your budget but the 2-12 Helos is a pretty decent score if you don’t mind illumination, simple zero stop and the ability to shoot further if you wanted.
It’s glass is very good and seems to track real well for under 500 bucks. On 2X the donut in the center is quite nice as well if you did forget to replace a battery.

Another great piece of glass with about the same stuff as the Athlon. Just a little more scratch. Not sure which is any better yet.

Seriously, I'd stick with the Zeiss or something similar and consider going down-power a little, like the 3-12×44. I've never passed up a shot because 3x was my lowest setting, but I still prefer a 2x. 12x is plenty for deer and threading bullets between branches. If you want to spot antlers at any great distance, use binoculars.
