Ya'll have posted several good bassists that I didn't think of.

Why do I have to press 1, for English?

Funny no one has mentioned Bob Babbit, the other half of the Funk Brothers' bass section......

Lots of good bass players.........all made a difference and grew the instrument.

Mark King with Level 42 is one of the finest bassists out there. The music is a bit pop-ish, but the bass is spot on.

Check this guy out!

Yep Jaco was a hug talent. What I find interesting about Tal though is how she managed to play with so many huge talents at such a young age

Not a big fan of her singer song writer efforts though.

Why the Swampers remain unknowns is truly a mystery!

Everyone has heard them. They just don’t know it. They were the musicians on about half of the hit songs of the 1970s. Barely an exaggeration

I agree. I have listened to her own music and was not a big fan, but the talent certainly is there in a big way.

I think her age and very youthful attractiveness didn't hurt her career start either. She is somewhat of a youthful visual foil playing with the old sorts of Jeff Beck.

I find it interesting that there were only 3 mentions of McCartney, but if you asked all of the other bass players mentioned, most would say he was a major influence if not thee influence in them playing the bass in the first place. Does McCartney have the chops as Lee? No, but you have to look at what was going on at the time he was paving the way.

Iommi wrote most of the music.

Butler wrote most of the lyrics.

That would have been a great time to see Sabbath! I spent alot of hours playing along to their first few albums. I saw them on their first tour with Dio.
