Fearful Times
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2Timothy 1:7)
Over the last two years we have seen things happening around the world ,and even in sleepy old Canada, that give us all cause to wonder, and maybe even worry a bit. The pandemic and all the associated rules and regulations that seemed to get changed on a whim certainly cause concern regardless of what side you find yourself on. Families are being drawn apart. National expenditures are skyrocketing out of control.
Then along comes Mr. Putin with a military plan to annex Ukraine and just recently to threaten the use of nuclear weapons. The weapons he could deploy make the bombs dropped on Japan look like 4th of July fireworks.
Fearful times, for sure. But if you are a Bible believer, and spending some time reading and trusting what the Lord says in the scriptures, that short verse above says that God hath not given us a spirit of fear. So, if you are overtaken with a spirit of fear, it should not be coming from the Lord. Many times in the Bible we are told, “Fear not!” Yes, we are told to fear the Lord, but Mr. Putin is not the Lord.
Will a time of tribulation come on the earth? Most definitely! But if you believe your Bible, the rapture of the church age believers will precede the time of Jacob’s Trouble. It is NOT the church’s trouble. We’re out of here. Fear not, little flock. (Luke 12:32) God has not given you the spirit of fear, but of power – that comes from the word of God which is quick and powerful. (Hebrews 4:12)
A spirit of love is given to the child of God – we know that we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren. (1John 3:14) A spirit of a sound mind has been given unto you. That sound mind comes from soundness in the faith, based on sound doctrine from the Bible. Get yourself an old KJV 1611 Bible, and hang on rightly dividing it and as you do, keep pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)
