They fly over here frequently. One day I'm going home from work, and one shoots the mountain gap. Coming right at my car, on a long straight stretch of road, as we close I'm thinking of his capabilities and what it would be like to be his enemy in that position.
Of course it wasn't real, but it wasn't a great feeling.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!
A friend of mine flys those. He graduated at the top of his class and that’s what he chose to fly. He says it was interesting flying at 15,000 feet then having to go higher to fly over mountains in Afghanistan. Not a sound you want to hear overhead if you are the enemy. They have even more capabilities now so they can get up close or hit targets before anyone even knows they are there.
My all time favorite ... when we heard them off in the distance we usually couldn't wait to crest a ridge to see what sort of carnage they left behind. A lot of times we didn't even have to call in air support ... the AWAC boys would have already found armored ground forces and had them smoked by the Warthog wings.
The Apache jockeys would be pissed (but they got all the night work on soft targets) and we still had Cobras flying back then ... they used them sometimes for spotting but they were jealous. We'd see them in the field hangers and they were always ranting-on about the A10s getting all the kills.
Haji hated those things.
What you think about, you do ... what you do, you become. In a nation where anything goes ... eventually, everything will. We're almost there.
I saw huge lines of Russian vehicles on Ukrainian roads and my first thought was that would be a nice strafing run with an a10.Bb
I love me some A-10 goodness, but Russia is not Iraq. Send the A-10s in without first reducing Russian air defense systems and it will get chewed up. Air defense systems more advanced than those that force Israel to use only cruise missiles and F-35s to bomb Syria and Lebanon when before they could use F-15 & F-16.
Nobody has yet seen the S-400 AD system at work. Like I wrote, the S-300 system that Russia gifted Syria put the kibosh on easy bombing by Israel of its neighbors.
