Anybody ever use the old Speer Hot Core 180 grain round nose in the 300 Sav or 308 win? Picked some up cheap at a gunshow last weekend....mb

Not the round nose, but I did use a Hot Cor 180gr Spitzer soft point on a buck this year. Had to switch to them due to not being able to find the Sierra GMK's I usually use. Interestingly they shot a tighter group than the Sierra's in my 300WM.

Shot many Wisconsin whitetails with those, but out of a 3006. They were mild loads so probably close to 308 velocities. Very accurate and of course put those deer down right quick.

Well kinda what I'm looking for is a soft 180 rn that will expand at 300 Sav and 308 velocities, probably most shooting inside 200 yds, so a high bc pointy bullet not needed at all or plastic tips. I don't have a problem reading about them and their advertising hype in bullet manuals but I really enjoy hearing from shooters relaying their OWN experiences with them....mn

I'm sure for what you will use them for, they will work fine. A 180 grain round nose is a hammer on close range deer

Try working up to 36 grains of IMR 3031 with the 180 RN in the 300 S. Should give 2300 to 2350 and group up for you.

Yep. .308. Seem to shoot pretty well with RL 15.

Anyone who thinks there's two sides to everything hasn't met a Mbius strip.
