Jimmy Kolb bench pressed more than anyone in history, recently. 1320. That is utterly incredible. It was equipped, of course, and in a sanctioned meet(IPA). I know the head judge, and he is a bench press legend. This was a legit lift. There have been a lot of fakers out there. Jimmy Kolb isn't one of them.

Isn't it really dangerous to arch the lower back that way?

Lots of things are dangerous if you're not strong as hell.

So guess the raw bench is around 800 now.

Incredible.

782.2, I think. Julius Maddox. Daniel Zamani claims the first over 800, but it was a training lift, in his own gym. I would venture to guess that Maddox surpasses that in his gym. I would also guess that Zamani claims some kind of injury, right before a meet. His highest raw bench in a meet is 465 or so, about 6 years ago. 750 in a single ply shirt. I just don't really trust it. Maddox is the real deal, right now.

Nope, it isn't. I have benched with an arch for over 30 years. It's pretty safe.

A band shirt. It's IPA legal. Most tight bench shirts stick your arms out like that...

Regardless... WOW!

Congratulations!

Can’t imagine.

Raw is you, possibly wrist wraps, and the bar. Some feds differentiate between raw modern, with wrist wraps, and classic, without wrist straps. Equipped uses some sort of gear, including slingshots and/or a bench shirt. Different federations allow or forbid certain gear. There are a lot of options. Number of plies, open back, closed back, etc. The IPA has an unlimited catagory, as well, I believe. Raw is no gear except with the exception of wrist wraps. Equipped uses some sort of gear.

Wow, talk about a super-human feat. What was the prior record benchman?
