Looking to buy a pistol upper. I’m thinking 10.5”, but maybe up to 12”. You guys have suggestions without breaking the budget?

That should work out for you. I also have a 10.5" upper from PSA, with the front sight gas block. It works fine also. The 11.5" gives a little longer dwell time, so that pushes more gas back to the action. In theory it's more reliable than a 10.5", but I've never actually heard of anyone having problems with a 10.5" barrel with a carbine gas system.

What do you think about the nitride versus the CHF barrels? My other upper from them is CHF and it’s been awesome.

I think the FN CHF barrels are very good. I have one too, in a 14.7" pinned/welded upper from PSA. It's a good accurate barrel.
