I'm looking for some 16 gauge that would be appropriate for hunting turkey. I want to use a Browning, Semi Auto gold trigger that I inherited when my Father In Law passed about 5 years back. He purchased it right after he got back from WWII. He probably didn't fire 10 round through it. He gave me a box or two of Paper Shells from when he bought it. I only hunt with a longbow and pistol normally so getting close to them will not be a problem.

I'd be very cautious trying to shoot a dignified turkey round through such a fine firearm. If I were in your boots I'd just shoot a standard ounce load of #6. Get em in within 30 yards and should be an instant harvest. I'm sure others will chime in and give plenty more advice. Back before all these fancy turkey loads of copper, tungsten, hevi-shot, plutonium, kryptonite, etc. that's all folks had to use and it worked just fine. May not have done the 60yrd shots plus as today's shells do but that's what was used for a century plus was just regular old lead. Seems to me for the most part we have marketed ourselves into a generation of manufacture profit of matte black/synthetic firearms. The old age beauty of high luster blue and walnut has diminished for the common working man in today's firearm shops.

If you were within range of me I’d hand you a few of my 1-1/4 oz Winchester double magnums assuming your gun is full choke? My next best option that you actually might find local is some 1-1/8 oz #6. A slew of ammo companies make them and they won’t break the bank while cycling your firearm. If you can’t find them new, again try the gun shows.

I just noticed Ammoseek.com had a better selection of 16 gauge loads than they have had in a while. As stated above a good load of #4 or #6 shot lead should do the trick, assuming you have enough choke. Good Luck, Rick

A 1oz load of cheap #6 from a 2 3/4" hull works fine. Get them inside 30 yds (preferable closer to 20) and any old shell should work. No one "needs" TSS or Heavy Shot if they know how to hunt.

They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.
