I've owned a few .25-06 rifles over the years, and recently snagged a 24" barrel for a T/C Encore. I was *really* looking for a .250 Savage or .257 Roberts, but they are next to impossible to find for an Encore...so I went with the '06. Oddly enough, I finally found a .257 Roberts this week in a Mark X, but I still plan on keeping the Encore.

I really like the heavier 117-120gr bullets in the .25-06, but wouldn't mind trying some of the Barnes 100's.

I built a 25-06 over 30 years ago and still have it. It's a great rifle and a perfect cartridge for your purposes.

The 25-06 is a deadly cartridge for whitetails on down, without a lot of recoil. I've got a Sako AV in 25-06. She's purty and shoots well.

I've also got a Winchester M70 Super Grade in 25-06. She's a looker, to, but hasn't been to the range, yet.

I read many...many years ago on the campfire the 25-06 was the unofficial "Texas" state flower.

I would not argue with that, Doc! grin

The 25.06 is no doubt my favorite caliber and pure deer poison here in NC. I've personally never shot anything under 110grs in mine but everything i've loaded produced good accuracy. My favorite is the Speer 120gr Hot-Cor with a full house of RL22. I've been shooting a 25.06 for around 30yrs and there's lots of bullet and powder combinations that work well in this caliber and for me it's been an easy caliber to work with. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Mike

25-06 is a great cartridge for deer sized game. I prefer 110 Accubonds over Retumbo in mine, but have found plenty of other bullet/powder combinations that produced excellent accuracy.
