So my oldest daughter has been riding cutting horses for about 8 years. She stopped riding in many of the youth classes about 5 years ago to avoid having to cut rerun cattle. In March of 2020 she rode in the Eastern Nationals in Jackson, MS and took home a top 10 finish in the $50,000 Amateur class Last week she traveled to the Eastern in W. Monroe, LA. Rode in the Sr Youth on Friday March 4. She drew last set, last rider. Didn’t make the finals. That is a terrible draw. The cattle know the game and the arena was practically empty by that late in the afternoon. It’s just a weird vibe. So she spends all week working with her trainer. I took a day off to watch her ride in the $50,000 Amatuer class Friday 3/11. Scored a 211.5 to make Saturday's finals. As far as I could tell she was the only rider under 18 and one of maybe 2 under mid 20s. Her draw?? You guessed it: final set, final ride. Busted a 215 to force a 3-way tie for 2nd and a Reserve Champion buckle and finish. The winner of that class has lifetime winnings of over $300k. Due to being over 60 he can still ride in the $50k. Yep many rodeo and horsemanship events favor the first riders. For someone to do well as the last rider further proves the exceptionalism of the rider/horse.

Wow, that's quite an achievement! My oldest daughter (17yo) is an avid horse buff. She's been doing barrel races and playdays since she was old enough to climb on a horse. She's won her share of buckles and saddles, but nothing on the level of your gal. Mine is sure proud of her buckles. I think she'd wear one with a bathing suit if she could figure out how.
Mine just got accepted to Tarleton State for ag business and will probably minor in something equine. She likes horses more than people.
Congrats to your daughter, it looks like you raised a fine young lady.

Needless to say....I fell off when we started sorting cattle!
