During ammo shortages sometimes 17hmr is about the only thing available. If you want to eat what you shoot go for headshots.

But this year I used the new again 25-35 win with pointy bullets for wintertime jackrabbit practice.

with respect i am not impressed with a 17 HMR anymore but its good on birds , went back to my 22 K-Hornet , 22 K-hornet kills furry critters much better and if your a reloader cheaper to shoot and i don`t run out of ammo as easy..

Good for you Jim. I didn’t read all the replies, but what make and model?

Mines a Savage, with a Vortex. Deadly out to about 125 yards.

Buy extra magazines if it’s a Savage.

Not this time boy!

The gun is pretty new too...called a Ruger American Rimfire.

Doesn't have the boat paddle stock I am accustomed to.

The cartridge is called the 17 HMR. Anyone have one yet?

Never understood why a gun company would develop and chamber a new round...sell the guns...and not have ammo available yet.

Cutting edge stuff I guess.

Stopppppppit

I opened this thinking "300 PRC."

So disappointed.

When I was in Texas, I believe it was at Academy sports. The ammo was $18 a box.

Its a CZ Varminter.

Had I listened to John Barsness and gotten the American instead of the Varminter....I wouldn't need a 17hmr.

Oh, well....had to buy another gun!

Now you need to add that 'other' newby, the .22RF and you'll be all set.
