I'm left handed so snaps on an OWB is important, otherwise I have to thread the holster through the long way around. I prefer wide spacing on the loops for support - especially for a heavier pistol like a 1911. Milt Sparks Axiom Custom: Pure class

I have a few. You said "full body shield", and apparently that's not common on OWB holsters. Tried to show approximate ride height and cant. My favorite is the Rafter S Shark/Elephant, but they are no longer in business. I believe someone above referred to a Wilson holster that is basically the same. "Best" is a hard choice. Probably the Sparks Axiom is hard to beat, and you might be able to order it with a body shield. L-R: Andrews Speed Scabbard, Bianchi 52 International, Barranti Border Ranger, and Rafter S (with shield) L-R: Sparks 55BN, Sparks 60TK, 5-Shot LFA1 (with shield), and Sparks Axiom

How could I forget the 5-Shot Speed Scabbard. Awesome holster. I hate Kydex, but I love Garrett Holsters. They are leather lined, and this Silent Thunder STX has a full body shield. Great holster.

Milt Sparks does carved holsters for 1911s. If you are only going to have one fancy holster, THIS is the one to have . No question about it! Doesn't get much better. Perfection. And beautiful.

My back is messed up. Everything goes in a Fobus paddle holster of some sort.
Before my back went to chit my Combat Commander rode in a Galco Concealable.

It doesn’t have any body shield at all but I really like the Simply Rugged CID Slide because it is very TIGHT to the body like their regular pancakes but there is a minimum of material below the belt which I find digs into my legs when worn closer to 3:00.
That’s because I am only 165 lbs and any extra material easily becomes too much.

It’s easy to learn a lot around here. Thanks gents.
257 I was not aware of those Garretts. I think I like them.

I am a long time user of Kramer Horse Hide Holsters and have more of them them then any other holsters. For OWB carry in town I prefer the OWB Belt Scabbard Kramer offers and have one for my 1911's and a custom Browning Hi Power as well as two S&W revolvers.
I am wearing out faster then my Kramer Horse Hide Holsters. Nothing to my eyes looks as good as a good Govt. Mod. 1911 in a OWB Kramer Horse Hide Belt Scabbard. They are also the only leather holster I trust with out a tension screw. I asked Kramer to put a tension screw in a holster once and they said they don't offer them because they are not needed. They hold their shape and retain the gun very well.
I have had a IWB 1911 Kramer Holster since the mid 80's.
My butt ugly Glocks get kydex, but me purdy guns get leather. I am going to order one for my newly acquired Dan Wesson Bruin 10mm and hope to have it before the Alaskan barbecue season kicks in. LOL

I’ve got a floral carved El Paso Saddlery holster almost just like that one I use when I’m “dressing nice”. If I’m working at the Ranch I’ve got an old Galco Concealable Model I use. It’s already all scuffed up.
