I'm thinking about getting an HK45. Does anyone here have experience with one? I've heard and read some mixed thing. How good is the double-action trigger?

I had one that I sold but wish I'd kept. Double action trigger is not great, but not terrible either. Single action was OK. The gun became much more shootable when I had it converted to the LEM trigger by H&K. It was very accurate and soft shooting. Here's a target I shot at 10-yards, 5-rounds in 5-seconds using 230gr FMJ.



They're great guns, and well worth having.

HK's double action triggers are atrocious. I carry mine cooked and locked to bypass it. Both the HK45 and HK USP 45 are rock solid reliable and tank tough.

I almost bought one a few times, but they felt kind of too heavy with a pretty high bore axis. Enough so that I decided to pass.

LGS has a used 45C.
Felt good.
But I got a new P30L w thumb safety instead

What’s up with the round inserted in backwards?

Famous HK advertising goof in the late 80’s or early 90’s. An ad made it to print with a mag loaded backwards. I’m guessing it an homage/poke in the eye. Remember, the HK motto is ‘Because you suck and we hate you’.

K1500 explained it; just a reference to the classic H&K advertisement. Contrary to the legendary motto, I've found H&K's US based customer service to be very helpful the times I've sent them guns to be converted to the LEM trigger system.

The P30L is a great gun, and Safariland holsters for the P30L will generally fit the HK45. When I had my HK45 it wore a Streamlight TLR-1 and I had it in a Safariland ALS holster made for a P30L/Surefire X300. Worked fine.

What I really wanted was a SIG 210, but saw this a similar thing but a little less expensive. How do the two compare?

The HK45 is not really comparable to a Sig P210. The HK45 was designed to be a very durable and accurate service-size .45 ACP, and it is probably one of the most durable .45 on the market today. Check out Todd Green's endurance testing at the Pistol-Training.com website, as well as his interview with Larry Vickers and Ken Hackathorn regarding the design process of the HK45.

The SIG P210 on the other hand is intended to be a lower cost version of the Swiss SIG P210's which were 9mm service autos that, because they were Swiss, tended to be very well made and very accurate.

I have an HK 45 and it is one of my favorite handguns of all time. The double action is heavy, however it is a very accurate pistol.

Hk45 or USP 45. Can’t go wrong with either. Trigger can be tweaked with a few parts or like others said you can covert to lem. Buy one and don’t look back.
