This is a " costing someone here some money " announcement.... Dang nice Kimber 6.5x47 Lapua on Gunbroker right now... No affiliation with the seller, just thought someone here might like it.
If I hadnt bought a Fieldcraft, I would be on this... or at least try to.

Super nice rifle “maybe”. Hard pass when I see the NR, I realize we all started there…but
Are you part of the problem or part of the solution?

I wish I’d have seen it. I wouldn’t mind a 6.5x47 but a Rechamber wouldn’t be too difficult I wouldn’t think.

I would have been bidding on that one for sure if I had seen it. I'd give a few hundred mire than it went for.

My 6.5x47 Montana is a favorite.
Was tempted to grab that one on GB for the kid, but forgot about it until it was too late.
Good deal on that rifle, hope it works out great for the buyer.

This is a caliber I am attracted to but know very little about. Ask me about anything you like about the -47. Have been shooting it for 13+ years from several platforms with many many bullets and powders. Have killed in close and WAY out yonder with it; mule deer and elk. Put several thousand rounds per year down range in competition. Have shot it as a 22x47 and 6x47 too. Alan

For the group: 1. would you say the 6.5x47 is best suited to bullet weights up to 140? 2. is this a part of the 6.5 caliber bunch, the 260, 6.5 CM and the 6.5 Swede, ballistically speaking?

For what it’s worth, I’m shooting 123s in mine, with Varget at 2850. Not leaning on it hard either.
Original plans were to shoot 139s, but they were out of stock and the 123s went sub .5” so that’s where I stayed. Excellent results on the 5 deer I shot with them as well.

Last year with my old Hawkhill barrel and this year with my new Brux barrel, I've been shooting the Barnes 145 gr Matchburner bullet. Accuracy has been superb for the NRL Hunter matches i've been shooting.

An argument might be made that: 140-147s are ballistically superior that lighter bullets in 6.5s.........assuming you hit a certain mv. Can you do that with the 47? Given adequate barrel length and proper powders - Sure. As to the best bullet weight for the 47? I will say for ME personally, the 130 AB has been my bullet choice for 6.5x55 and 260 for hunting.......and it is what's in my 47 field loads. Personally, I believe the 123-130s are vastly under utilized in the smaller 6.5s. The Grendel and BR are best suited for 100-130 no doubt. The larger rounds can handle the heavier bullets, and assuming one is REALLY stretching distances, then the case (no pun) can be made to use 140-147s. For under 400 yds on game, give me a 120BT, 125 PT, or 130 AB. The 123s are known to be deadly, and there are no flies on the 130 Bergers given the plethora of dead deer etc by them. There are the mid-weight specialty bullets by Nosler and Barnes that also do well. Hard to find bad bullets that are designed for hunting in 6.5, IME. I will add, Alan is as good a resource on this round as any.......
