Discussing an all around 7mm bullet with some pards. To be used in 7mm08, 7 SAUM, 280AI, 7 RM. Hunting elk, deer, antelope, and occasional long range (up to 1,000 yds) target and rock shooting.

Looking at:
150 NBT
150 NAB
150 LRAB
150 ELDX
150 Scenar-L
150 Scirocco 2 (spendy little buggers)

Which would you choose and why? Please limit this to the 150’s. Stick I know what you’ll say already. 😁

Can never go wrong with the NAB. I’ve had good luck with it in the 7 mag.

I really liked the Sciroccos in the 7 rem mag when I was hunting elk and mule deer in Co.

Notice the price per bullet is about 90 cents, $.90 for the Scirocco.

They aren't selling boxes of 50 like the Partitions, Ballistic Tips, AccuBonds and Barnes it's boxes of 100.

Nosler Accubond or the Ballistic Tip. Used both with great success.

With 150’s at 7 mag velocities, the NAB seems the only choice if shorter hunting shots are in play. If you keep the hunting to longer ranges, the BC of the ELDX would be nice to have for play time.

Depends.... I liked 150 NAB’s from a 20” 7-08 on deer. I like 160 NAB’s or 162 ELD’s from my 7 WSM’s. And 180 ELD’s from my heavy 7 WSM.

I’ve not drawn blood with them yet but the 150 Scenar is very accurate and easy to work with in my 708. The 150 NBT has been good in my 708’s and 7wsm.

I wish I would have bought more Scenars when Grafs had them on clearance for about $20 a box

I’d take the 150 Swift myself if it shoots.

My vote goes for the 150 NBT, it is tougher than a lot of people think but my question is, why was the 150 gr Nosler Partition left out?

You are right about the 150 BT. Much tougher than given credit. Have put it through some pretty decent sized deer and hogs. Never did catch one.

Good luck finding any 150 AB or BT.

Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

Dad and I used BTs and Partitions, depending on what we hunted.
Dad used them interchangeably. Depending on what he expected to shoot.

Of course he was expecting deer when an elk appeared.
It died. No idea he used the "wrong" loads untill he unloaded his rifle.

Only 7 mag experience.

Without elk, BTs for me. With, Partitions.
Either will work, nothing is exactly perfect every shot.

Initial velocity, distance, animal size, angle, exact placement, bone/or not,
all variables. And they can stack up.

The 150 NBT's shoot accurately out of my 280 rem... 55 grns of H4350 (near max) puts 3 under 3/4 of an inch @ 100 yds... There's more in that load but i never tweaked it due to bullet scarcity... And as others have said you cant go wrong with a partition for an all arounder at moderate ranges...

I have shot 3 cow elk size critters with the 150 NBT launched from my 280. Two were taken at 100 yds and the last at 300 yds. They work and are accurate.

I don’t plan on long range target shooting with a partition

Yep, Noslers are getting spendy too, the LRAB is getting close to that.

Scenars are available and about $.50/bullet right now.

It would be NBT or Scenar for me.

Any would likely work, but I’ve seen and personally had success with those 2 and liked what I saw.

I’ve saw 2 bullet failures in 7mm.
First being 162 Amax out of a 7 WSM. Completely came apart on 2 different white tails. Total of 5 shots, all what I consider very bad performance. One on a shoulder at 130ish yards, one on a shoulder between 75 and 100, and the rest behind the shoulder. That bullet got a lot of love on here, but based on those 5 I stopped using them.

Second was the 140 AB out of a 7 SAUM. Another that I had read great things about. I changed from my normal 180 Scenar load and found the 140s just as accurate, so decided they “should” be a better elk bullet. Put 3 tight behind the shoulder of a good size cow, right around 100 yards. Almost perfectly broadside. Not a single one made it to offside ribs. For what it’s worth same load has blown through white tails no problem.

Did recover the animals, but absolutely did not like what I saw from those particular bullets. Others I trust on here and in person have had almost complete opposite results, so take that for what it is.

NBTs arent that cool on the web anymore, but that is one bullet that I’ve never had issue with. I use them with complete confidence. Scenars too, I’ve found they dig about like Barnes. I’ve not shot anything with them at high velocity though.
