Mighty good recommendations from some high powered sources. I'll be back at that shop Wednesday to see what I can do. Some deals are no brainers. Some require a little convincing.

Best recommendation is whether you want it...

The best guns I own were bought for no other reason than I wanted it at the time. smile

Absolutely not. Do not buy it. Also, what is the name and phone number of said pawn shop?

Nice rifle and cartridge, but I’d not pay $1200 for it. Maybe $1000.

Lt. Pat;
Good afternoon my friend, evening now in your part of the world I guess, I hope all is well with you and yours.

Way back when they started coming out with the 700 Classics in different chamberings every year, a shooting and handloading mentor started buying them, would shoot them and then trade them off.

I want to say that he had a .300 H&H, 8mm Rem Mag, .30-06 and at least one I'm forgetting now - and a .250.

It was amazingly accurate for a factory rifle Pat, as in I shot the very best 4 shot group of my life with it, an honest one tiny ragged hole, then pulled the 5th shot to make it a ½" group. Still nothing to sneeze at for sure, but it would absolutely dance.

When the time came to sell it, I was up to my armpits in some house or vehicle issue and didn't have the cash to spare.

That one would have been a wonderful rifle for one of our daughters I always thought - so much so that I picked up a .250AI from him about a year after the .250 Classic had gone to a new home and for sure it worked very well for her for several seasons.

Of course I can't say if that one will shoot like my late buddy Willy's did, but I still think about letting that one get passed me some days.

All the best whichever way you decide and God bless.

Dwayne

Not to sidetrack the thread (if I had $1200 and wanted a 250S in a 700 Classic I'd jump at the chance), but what round is the 1895 chambered for?

Since you don't want it, offer $850 and see what he says. You might get it for $1000.

Unless he pretends to get insulted.

They are very nice rifles, in a great caliber.

Well...there was one over there for sale, but its now sold. I wouldn't pay $1200. for one, maybe a $1000., if I really wanted one in that caliber, and I like the Classics - I have 3 of them.

I’m conflicted.
I’m one hand, he’s a subject matter expert (not on firearms).
On the other hand, if he thinks it’s bad, do the opposite.

Get it.

Ltppowell: The 250 Savage is one of the few Remington 700 Classics I have NOT owned.
I hope you can barter down that price a bit.
Good luck in that regard.
Come July when I start selling off my gun collection the selling of my batch of pet Remington 700 Classics is really going to HURT when they "go"!
If you are buying it to shoot/Hunt with then I predict you will be pleased with the Rifles accuracy - ALL of the Remington 700 Classics I have owned and my friends owned all shot well - I don't know why?
Best of luck what ever you decide to do.
Damn I have to go revise my gun inventory values upwards again.

At a pawn shop I would offer $750,00 you never know, and you can always go up. It would make a nice hog rifle.
