My Treager is terrible with temperature variations. Have to babysit every 15 minutes to see if is too hot or has completely shut off. Heard that the Green Mountain grills are a lot better. Any comments on what I should buy?

I've heard the grill blankets minimize temp fluctuations, but if it's completely shutting off I'd try to get a new circuit board.

We had a treager we used in the winter with a temp blanket, no problems even in the -20* -30* weather
No have a newer one with built in insulation and worked just fine all winter.
Coldest we used this winter was -25 cooked steaks just fine
Temps held with no problems

For a big box store grill I like my Pitboss. If I wanted something nicer I’d probably buy a Recteq.

I have a recteq and love it. Even with a blanket I can't use it effectively in temps under 0, but otherwise it has been perfect.

We had real problems with our Traeger too. It shut off and didn't heat right. After a number of tries they finally sent us the entire interior assembly to replace. Haven't had any problems since. Their customer support is pretty good. Usually it is one of the electronics that isn't right. Give them a call.

When I first started wood pellet smoking I purchased grills in the $400-$600 range they never held up well for me because we cook on them 3-4 days per week 365 days a year.I bit the bullet and purchased a Yoder YS 480 and have not looked back since. They are made in the USA and are pretty stout.

Never had much use for pellet cookers being used as grills. I have a Cookshack FEC100 pellet smoker, but if I had to rely on a pellet cooker for grilling it would be Yoder hands down. The only problem I have with RECTEC is that they are internet sales only and I like having local dealers for parts etc. The Treager's haven't been worth a crap since they started building them in China. To this day there are competition teams that will give good money for the pre-China Treager's. Lots of guys like them for their chicken.

First traeger went haywire and nearly burned down my house.
If I had been alone it would have. Luckily my buddy was there to help douse it while I looped the water hose around it and pulled it away from the overhang.

Replaced it and New one had same issues with temp and turning off.

Researched the Yoder. Yoder 480 looks like what I need. My Treager weighs less than 100 lbs. The Yoder 480 comes in at 277 lbs. Hmmmmm.....and made in the USA!

We have the small and medium Green Mountains. The small one has been spot on for temperatures. The medium fluctuates a little but not more than +/- 10 degrees.

500 - 550 max temp isn't great for steaks - if I were to buy another, this recteq intrigues me with the 750 degree max temp:

I can't believe anybody would waste money on any of these pellet fed pieces of schit.

Learn to BBQ or stick to tuna casserole for fugk sake.

For the few extra bucks buy the competition cart with the yoder YS480 it makes it more stable and the tires are hard filled. If $$ are a issue the Big green egg grill is another good choice ..I have both ...
