I think you gotta bring it down to smaller units like counties...look at your own Coos County 60% Republican, just up the line, look at Lincoln County...56% Dem. What is different? How people have made their living...Coos Co closer to the land, logging, ag, fishing...Lincoln Co more retired urban types, teachers, professors, state employees and other bullschidt artists who produce nothing from Willamette Valley where there is a University on every corner. The further you are from the land, the more skewed and screwed your ability to think. I actually know a person who never thinks any further than the grocery store shelf...which for her, is where food is mysteriously created, same in the toilet paper aisle. She recently commented, there are too many trucks on the highway. JFC. Of course, she is a college educated career Forest Service office drone.

california has been whacked for decades. my parents lived there briefly during ww2 when my old man was doing bombadier training. he said the people were screwed up even then. i saw the same thing when i lived in SD in mid-80's. something weird about the place for sure.

Per California, many years ago I read that California didn't extradite criminals back to the states in which they committed their crimes. So, the state was somewhat of a sanctuary for criminals to live in, unless a Bounty Hunter came in dragged them out of there.
That loaded the place up with criminal types who were breeding and migrating north into Oregon & Washington state.
