Hello, I was trying to put the scope on my new Tikka T3 Laminated Stainless 270WSM and the scope is touching the barrel. The rifle came with two pair of silver scope rings and with both rings the scope still touches the barrel. Do I need taller rings, I used to have the same scope on my Winchester Model 70 and I didn't have that problem. I think since the Tikka already has the scope base with in the barrel and on my Winchester the base was the one giving the extra clearance.

Any help is appreciated Rick.

Taller rings or smaller scope will fix it.Never want them to touch.

I think I found the problem. The integral receiver rail on the Tikka T3 is the one that doesn't give the scope the clearance. I just read that the rifle is drilled and tapped for Weaver-type bases. I guess that is in case you don't want to use the integral receiver rail. I am going to see what type of Weaver bases the Tikka T3 uses, and use the same scope rings with them.

For some reason the Integral Receiver Rail doesn't give me the confidence that I want.

Thanks 7 STW for the advise.

If it's a light degree of contact, some shim material in the bottom of both front and back rings might do the job and save one a little coin. If the contact is severe, then some slightly higher mounting system is likely in order. 1Minute

If you use weaver bases on the Tikka, you won't be able to use the Tikka rings that came with the rifle....they are made for the rail system....Weaver-style rings for the Weaver bases are fairly inexpensive and available from lots of companies...Weaver, Burris, Leupold, , Millet, B-Square/Lynx, and a bunch more. The Burris Z-ring works pretty good.

A note on the Tikka rail....if you just bought some higher mounts for the rail you would solve your problem. The rail does eliminate that extra few screws and mounting hardware that extra bases adds on. Just a thought.

Well, today was a very stressing day for me. I took the rifle to the place i bought it, and they were having a hard time putting the screws for the Weaver base, for some reason the screws were a little to big. They told me that my only chance was to order some from SAKO but that it was going to take more than three weeks (something that i can't afford). So I went to another Gun Store in town. Finally after i while, one guy told me that the only thing that can fit my rifle was the OPTILOCK base with OPTILCOK rings. The base was $53.50 and rings $30.00 and $30.00 for mounting and side boarding. Total $117.45 but the scope finally clear the barrel, I am going to take it to the range on Friday then on Saturday I am going to go for some wild hog hunting and try the Winchester XP3 in 270WSM.
