Tom, I weighed the 3-9 x 36 at 12 oz and 3-10 x 42 at 12.7oz very recently. The 10 power is slightly better for the long shots on small targets.

Compared Swaro 3x9x36 with Leupold 3.5x10x40 3HD for a 7x57 (have two 7x57's - the other has a Leupold fixed 6x36).
Picked the Leupold due to ease of seeing full image quickly/generous eye relief, great contrast along with top notch flare control.
Considered 2.5x8x36 but decided the added 3.5x10 length offered a little more adjustibility in 1" rings for my full length actions.
I found a 3.5x10 for $429 new on Gunbroker which is about $250+ less than the Swaro. Have Swarovski 7x42 SLC binoculars so like the brand just cannot justify the price difference after comparing light transmiting abilities.
Both rifles have great iron sights and both scopes have quick release mounts.
