Looking for a high gloss Remington BDL long action take off with the black tip and black grip cap. I’m hoping to find one in very good condition. I bought an early 70s 25-06 very cheap and the only thing wrong is the black tip is damaged. Let me know what you have and a price. Thanks!

My guess is you are looking for a Remington BDL takeoff stock.

Yes sir! Like the add says high gloss BDL take off and specifically with the black tip and black grip cap. Might be a long shot but I hope someone has one floating around. If not there is a local gunsmith that said he can install a new tip on the existing one for $100

If your smith can replace the tip for $100, I’d go that route. A takeoff stock is gonna cost $125-$150 with shipping.

Not telling you what to do, just my advice.

I think that is pretty good advice. I just shipped a stock this week in one of the USPS Triangular tubes that work so well for this. With the NEW charges they implemented those boxes are a flat $15 surcharge PLUS the actual shipping costs. What used to be $15-20 per stock is now $30-35.

I am always looking for factory wood stocks!

It might be what I end up doing. Only problem is he said he can’t get the same tip so it will be a hardwood that he stains black. Should still look good though

I’d hold out for a factory stock. They come up for sale all the time. Your gun will never look right with a “stained” piece of wood vs ebony. My 2 cents.

shelton573,

From what I’ve read, the forend tip and grip cap on the wood 700 BDLs were made from DuPont Zytel, which is a plastic. I know all the ones I’ve owned were Zytel. If yours are Zytel, maybe you could replace it and the grip cap with ebony and refinish the whole stock?

A like-new cut checkered BDL factory stock will bring $250+ these days on eBay. A really nice early BDL stock with the pressed checkering will be in the same price range.

Good luck with whatever you decide to try.

I bought an older Remington 700 mt rifle with the black tip missing. It took me a few weeks to find the mt rifle tip but during my search I found several of the BDL tips. They are out there you just need to look. Sorry I can’t remember any of the places I called looking but they are out there. Good luck.

Benbo,

I thought I remembered seeing the tips available as well, but just couldn’t remember where. Seemed like it was CDNN or Gun Parts Corp, but a quick check on their sites didn’t turn up any. Since you had confirmed what I remembered, I did a quick search online and found them listed here:

https://cfnparts.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=151

They even have the white line spacers and some other hard to find parts.

To the OP - if you decide to go the “repair with factory parts” route, let us know how it turns out. Good luck!

Just a perspective, I have glued the tips back on before and unless the varnish was cracked when it came off, many times you can put one on and it be almost seamless. It may be a little more difficult on the bowling ball finish of the BDLs but still probably cheaper than buying a very good condition used one.
