It’s been many years since I’ve been involved with Mayhaws. I gathered a 48 quart cooler full, using a bateau , a long cane pole (thrashing the limbs), and scooping them from the water with a large minnow net! My ex-wife made the jelly. I think that she just cooked them down, put them into a course woven pillow case , and squeezed the juice into a large pot. Then did a normal canning process.

Mayhaw jelly is my favorite jelly of all….Gooseberry running a very tight second! memtb

It's great jelly.

I'd never had any before, and a member here was nice enough to send some my way.

I think it was the best jelly I'd ever had. smile

A member here gave me some jelly that he or his wife made - it was very good. The name sounded something like this - although I have never seen the fruit and had not heard about it before.

Maybe he will tell us about it.

Thanks, that’s probably what I’m thinking of, but in my mind those seem just a tad bigger then I remember them being.

I'm surprised that more members aren't making their own jelly. May be another of those Southern traditions that is fading. My wife used to help her mother make it but doesn't cook it down herself.

Sure do miss the homemade peach and strawberry preserves my Great Grandmother And Grandmother made when I was a kiddo.

I'm from east Texas. I have heard of "mayhaw".
About 5 years ago, my turkey hunting buddy brought me a pint of mayhaw jelly. Awesome stuff Maynard!

My favorite is peach jam followed by blackberry jelly.
