Yes, but remember back when we had back tags, the black silhouette rifle was a Remington m742. They still work for the once a year shooter though bolt actions have replaced the semi-autos in most places. The hunting population has gotten older and darn few of us are driving green swamps for each other any more and the deer and the hunters are both moving slower.
My other auto is a .45

$850 is a bit of a stretch, but the market for 742's has gotten really strong over the last year....I haven't seen one under $550 locally in quite some time.

Doesn’t seem unreasonable. A quick search of completed auctions show many 742’s selling above $800. I don’t want one but obviously some folks do. Like guy57 says, why not try for the best price?

Thats what it looks like.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

In the world of Left Hand Friendly Remington's, that is not an unreasonable price since Big Green went belly up. Not my cup-o-tea. However, would not be surprised to see it sell first time around...

The Rem 742's were notorious for the rotating bolt chewing up the inner receiver rails and being inaccurate. I wouldn't pay $85 no less $850 for a jamomatic 742.

From what I've seen over the past couple years, that's not unreasonable, but is on the high side of reasonable. IMO $650-850 is about where the market is, and its probably going up for a variety of reasons..

I sold one easily as nice as that one with a 3 x 9 scope that had less than 40 rounds through it for $550 in January. There is a nice one at a local pawn shop for I think $600.

Show me a nice example of any steel and wood rifle that doesnt seem crazy expensive. 700 Mountain Rifles at $12-1300. When I look to see how they are setup, just a bare rifle!
The chitt ADL guns sold 3 years ago, $500. The T3s Grice's clearanced for $350, now $500+.
Hell, I don't know what a gun is worth anymore.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!
