How do all of you clean the inside of your reloading dies. Been out of the game awhile. Thanks

I don't, unless there's something up in there scratching brass or denting necks or something like that. If there is, I hose them out with carb cleaner.

I was sizing some 223 cases and started getting some shoulder dents. I was careful not to over lubricant them as I know that can cause that. So my thinking is there may be some gummy residue from the last usage. Thanks for the carb cleaner suggestion as I have some and some air in a can.

Aerosol brake cleaner will zap ‘‘em out. Rubbing alcohol that’s 90 something percent works well also. After cleaning I give the interior a light coat of case lube.

Any of the aerosol firearms degreasers will work too. As shootem pointed out, when you get done cleaning a quick shot of Hornady One Shot case lube or a very light rub down with some case lube on a q-tip should be done before trying to size cases.

I usually use brake cleaner or bore cleaning solvent. I’ll unscrew the seater or deprimer shoot some in, put my fingers over the holes and give it a few shakes. I’ll then get a small wooden dowel or pencil and use a few cotton patches to dry it out.

I can tell the guys above are just plain old Down South rural folks...

I'm a Virginia native myself... yup been using good old Brake cleaner for decades... no one even had to suggest it to me...

why are hillbillies the best folks for just plain old common sense?

now watch there be a brake cleaner national shortage after some lefties read this thread....

Just a note, there is brake cleaner and then there is brake cleaner. The weak variety is basically acetone in a spray can. Next up is the kind that adds methanol and toluene. Top of the heap is red can CRC using tetrachloroethylene.

I just use 91% rubbing alcohol or acetone and cotton patches. If they are rusty, a plastic breech plug brush gets involved.

I got a really old set of 219 Wasp dies a while back I had to scrub pretty heavily with a brush to clean up. They ended up being crap, anyway, but at least they were clean crap. 😏

Brake cleaner and swab the inside with a couple of 3" cleaning patches on a a cleaning rod. Spray inside with Hornady one shot case lube for storage.

Non chlorinated brake cleaner works well when needed. That's not often

They are all bad. But the last one you really need to avoid.

Red can is the best. Nitrile gloves and outside with that stuff.
